Should I show my students the movie Almost Heroes for our unit on the Louisiana Purchase and Lewis and Clark?

Yes. Absolutely. The scene when Farley keeps getting attacked by the eagle should be seen by everyone.

 

I always assumed it was going to be one of the elderly actors they keep bringing back for action movies that will end up getting horribly injured or worse on set, but the Jackass team is competing for that distinction. A few of them are over 50; your body just can't respond in the same way anymore.

 

One reason I think Borat 2 doesn’t work as well is because by 2020, what Cohen does is simply not as unique these days. There are the rare people like Nathan Fielder who actually improve upon it, but there’s also countless shitty YouTubers who try the same to the point that, except for the handful of instances where Cohen captures something really special, it just ends up feeling tired - doing something ludicrous in public and recording the expressions of shocked onlookers is not enough anymore

The same could be said for the Jackass guys, except that their humor is so low-brow in the first place that I’m not sure if it will matter lol

 

I love the Jackass crew, I think they still can make something unique and special in 2020. I'm also constantly in shock that none of their stunts ever killed or permanently hurt any of them.

It's also amazing what so many of then have gone through with getting past substance abuse. I know they still have their demons, but some of their stories are crazy yet inspiring. Steve-o maybe the most, he's come so far.

 

The premise of Jackass is lowbrow, but they came up with a lot of clever stunts and experiments. It is far superior to the YouTubers.

 

Jackass is fun for what it is. I’m just glad we’re getting a 4th. I didn’t think they’d be doing this in their 40s/50s

 

That hospitilization news was from back in March just FYI (not that it really matters). I'm not sure why all the news outlets are bringing it up now.

 

My friends and I were absolutely obsessed with Jackass and Viva La Bam in elementary/middle school lol.

 

Bam Margera was probably the single most popular celebrity at my school when I was in middle school.

 

It is a very Concerned Parent talking point but I really do wonder how many teenage boys killed or permanently injured themselves trying to imitate Jackass pranks over the years lol

 

A lot of people attempted the stunts and got hurt, but people were doing that with wrestling and Power Rangers. Young boys will find a way to break their body.
