I've seen people putting movies from 2019 on their list and I feel like that speaks volumes of the quality of this year.

I'm Thinking of Ending Things came close but I haven't had a single film that hit 5 stars for me on Letterboxd this year, last year had like 5. Definitely a weak year.

To be fair, you should regard someone owning a copy of Boondock Saints as a red flag.

I owned it as a teen. I honestly never really got the hype that other teenage boys heaped on it, but I never found it to be awful. Haven't watched it in 15 years at least, though

those movies aren’t so much bad as they are indicative of the kind of person/the taste of the person sharing it. it’s basically a jpg format of the imdb top 250. you don’t want to be that person.

I’d argue a lot of those people arent constantly online enough to care about imdb

I actually dont even know how to get to the top 250 from the app

I haven't actually ever seen it.

Quentin Tarantino and Wes Anderson were a big part of high school. 25th Hour, Punch-Drunk Love, Adaptation, and Lost in Translation were among my favorites. In 10th grade I really loved the movie Scarface.

Big ones for my friends were all QT, Office Space, Donnie Darko, Requiem, Fight Club, American Psycho, City of God

It’s funny that a big criticism of that pic is “no comedies” but like...most of those movies are very funny. American Psycho is a comedy

From going to film school in 2010-13 I can tell you most people I met who loudly declared how much they loved cinema mostly watched tv shows. They watched Breaking Bad and Homeland instead of the assigned Godard/Truffaut

I took one "film appreciation" class in college and they made us watch The Blair Witch Project. I knew it was not for me.

My high school had a censorship class that was:
    Fight Club
    Harry Potter
    25th Hour
    Trainspotting
    Requiem

I was hype because I had seen all of them and read Fight Club prior to taking it

I remember reading an article (I think from The Ringer?) a while back about how skewed IMBD's data is towards the tastes of young white cis men, so it would make sense that Boondock Saints would be up there on their ratings.

When they got The Dark Knight to number one on IMDb's Top 250, we really had no idea that it was a harbinger of things to come.

250 isn't even on the main IMDB desktop page anymore? That's wild.

Boondocks isn't on there, idk if it ever was. There are a lot of good films on there, to be fair. Come and See being 2 spots behind Toy Story 3 made my heart ache a little
