Even if you like these things, how is this not overkill? What happened to enjoying things in moderation?

Because not everyone will watch all of them. There's a lot I'm interested in and a lot I'm not. The ones I don't care about, other people do and vise versa.

Are we getting to a point where there's enough content where will be people who exclusively watch Disney/Marvel/Star Wars movies and TV shows?

That is my fear, and I think it is something that they have been pushing for a while.

I forget which movie it was (I think it is one of the Captain America movies), but I remember seeing people say that it was really a Cold War thriller, not a superhero movie. Of course you also have these R-rated superhero movies now as well. What they are doing is trying to create so much of an ecosystem that people can feel comfortable getting everything filtered to them through The Brands™, rather than having these things serve their natural purpose, being part of someone's overall cinematic experience. We will see romance, comedy, drama, action, and horror all given to us through lightsabers and people wearing capes.

The three Star Wars films were enough for people for two decades. Yes you had the books and the video games, but the core story that the vast majority of people could remember was the Luke-Han-Leia story. These shows are clearly not for me, but even if they were I would not want that much material being stretched out. It just dilutes the series and makes it harder for people to know what the entry point was.

Even if you watch every single thing they put out which most people don't, it's still not nearly enough to be all you watch unless you just don't watch much at all.

I'll be watching most of the Marvel series but couldn't care less about Star Wars and I'm not that into the Buzz Lightyear idea

But yeah it doesn't really seem like thaaat many new things to watch. It's no different from new stuff constantly showing up on Netflix or Hulu

The difference with Netflix and Hulu is that all their original programming isn’t in a shared universe, there’s a diversity to what they make while Disney shows are almost all set in Star Wars or the MCU.

I don’t think most people consume exclusively Disney content, but I do believe there are those who would love to have enough content that was Star Wars or Marvel to where that could be all they consume, even if it’s a minority. And it is a little frustrating to see all these red flags on what it means for cinema and entertainment and see most people shrug their shoulders at it. I dunno, I’m rankled. I think a better media landscape is possible and audiences should hold entertainment to higher standards, which I think does mean putting a cap on the consumption of stuff made for kids.

What mega franchise is Netflix making ten of at once?

Netflix, for all its faults, innovated with making shows that appeared on their platform and gave a lot of weird experiments a chance. Disney just consumes other companies and pumps out more and more stuff.

the people saying that were the people directing the movie. it doesn’t help that dummies will eat director bullshit up like it’s fact.

I just think that's no different to how some people do nothing but watch game shows and soap operas or people who just listen to the same handful of bands. There's always going to be people who just don't care about searching out new art and there's always going to be people who value it.

I mean, who cares if it's a major franchise? My point is that I'm constantly getting and watching new content from Netflix or Hulu. Being a franchise is irrelevant imo

The fact that it is a franchise is the whole point of the conversation. If Disney was announcing a bunch of shows based on new ideas it would be a good thing.
