i have hulu, netflix, disney+, amazon, hbo max and apple tv and it's all still a fraction of the price of cable. they charge more than the monthly cost for most of those services for each of their cable boxes a month, on top of the actual service

I just dropped traditional cable a few months ago in favor of YouTube TV split between 4 people. All the same channels for just $15/month when it's split

Anything else good out today besides Mank and Small Axe III?

From the director of Kong: skull island and the writer of Jurassic world? Sounds truly awful.

I hoped Star Wars would turn him away from franchises and blockbusters a little bit

Seriously. I could see if Kojima was writing or even producing it, but as far as I can tell he has no involvement.

edit: IMDb lists him as “production executive” under additional crew, whatever that means.

Has there been a good movie based on a video game?

I thought detective pikachu, sonic and the latest Tomb Raider were alright

does Wreck It Ralph count if it's a pastiche and not about an actual game

I mean I will defend the Resident Evil series until the day I die but those movies get more entertaining the further they get away from the games.

Tomb Raider was forgettable, but not horrible. I actually haven't seen Pikachu or Sonic but I've heard they're both fun.

Tomb raider was bland but an improvement on the earlier 2 films and video game adaptations as a whole

A lot of video game protagonists don’t have much personality to be player avatars and add to the immersion aspect, which I imagine is a problem when trying to adapt those characters to a medium where they need to be engaging without the audience literally controlling their actions and decisions

Jordan Vogt Roberts is a solid director and Kings of Summer ruled!

I like the tv stuff he’s done and kings of summer and successful alcoholics but his experience working with a major studio doesn’t really give me any faith in this thing.
