It is a cliche, but Jaws made it impossible to go deep in the ocean, which might not matter if you live in Kansas but difficult when you live in Florida.

 

Not sure any movie really traumatized me as a kid but I vividly remember seeing Scream when I was 8 and that did scare the shit out of me

Child's Play scared the shit out of.me.and my sister. I was 6 or 7. She was 3 or 4.

 

No movie I can remember just an episode of unsolved mysteries where a lady froze outside but some how survived. The image of the frozen lady scared the shit out of me. I think I was 6 or 7.

 

I saw Stigmata in a theater for some reason and had to leave because I was so scared. Checking the math... I was 11

 

Any dark water in a movie where things are in said dark water.

I didn't even see the movie, but if you guys remember the "Scary Maze Game" that was huge on the internet in like the early 00's, it's basically a flash maze that once you hit a certain point Linda Blair's face from the Exorcist pops up on screen with a loud scream sound and scares the shit out of you. I did that when I was like 7 and it fucking scarred me for life, I refused to watch that movie until just a couple years ago. Didn't even find it scary lol (though it was really good)

 

The Final Fantasy movie, for sure. I was the only person in the theater.

Does Margaret count? I wasn’t the only person in the theater but I think it was only released in like one theater. I also saw Popstar opening night and the theater was near empty, which unfortunately aligned with how it ended up performing commercially

I mean, regardless of covid, it was a huge hit.

 

it wouldn’t have been a top 15 grossing movie in a normal slate. someone else mentioned green lantern in the thread. that movie made $100m more in 2011 dollars, probably closer to 250m more now with the way super hero movies have gotten.
