HIMYM wasn't always good, but when it was good, it was really good, for its time. The concept for the character of Barney Stinson hasn't aged well, but at least none of the irl cast afaik are the equivalent of, say, Louie C.K., Aziz Ansari, or Chris Pratt, rendering an otherwise perfect show unrewatchable.

 

I know HIMYM has its issues, but I really love that show.

It is a tough situation. The "third season" of Twin Peaks is really its own thing, unlike the third season of something like The Sopranos or The Simpsons. We also have the precedent of an actual Twin Peaks movie coming between the first two seasons and the revival. Artistically, there is much more that separates the new season of Twin Peaks from the main show than there is between something like the Marvel movies.

 

i don’t disagree. that doesn’t also mean that the episodes weren’t structured in an episodic format completely contrary to that of film

That is true. There are very clear artistic choices made for the purposes of weekly episodes that would not be made in a movie, even one that was actually 18 hours long.

We should probably not segregate films and television shows so much anymore, as mainstream film has become more and more serialized while television has often featured more contained storytelling. Not only that, the distinction in delivery has changed as well, with modern shows being shot in many of the same ways film is while movies are increasingly being watched at home. For some reason calling it a show still feels like it cheapens it, making it sound more like The Big Bang Theory and less like Eraserhead.

The short answer is to treat it like a miniseries, like the full versions of The Trip seasons or Top of the Lake.

 

It being a tv show is what makes me want it to win

 

fwiw i think it's much better and more resonant than several of the other remaining films. just was interesting to me.

he’s only been funny in 30 rock though

 

There was a period of time where he was literally the "surprise" guest on every comedy show for an episode or two but never was really funny.
