I remember reading once that Drive is supposed to be kind of a parody of some type of old style of movie? But I can’t remember

 

It’s def influenced by the Driver, which is a great movie.

I love Drive and The Neon Demon. Really like Bronson too. Only God Forgives has some stuff I like and some I don't, same goes for Too Old to Die Young. Overall I like his stuff more than I dislike it.

 

The guy clearly has a lot of visual skill but knows shit about storytelling.

I’m so glad I live near a drive-in. That shit is gonna be popping this summer. I feel like they have record store like resurgence this year.

 

I've never been to a drive in but would love it. I don't think they really exist here.

 

I would love Drive purely for the fact that it helped make that 80's synth-pop sound popular again, but I also just love the movie too lol

 

If you enjoy Drive for the synth soundtrack and want a movie that’s much more straightforward/not obtuse/more fun may I strongly recommend THE GUEST (2014)

 

I'd say Drive is more straightforward and more fun than that movie but hey ho.

99.9% of people who post something like “this movie sucks” or whatever isn’t posting it as if it’s a fact. Everyone knows there an implicit “I think-“ before it.

people come on this site all the time like “please attach imo to every statement and actually spell the whole thing out in my opinion so that it’s clear it’s your own opinion” like, we know, losers. everyone is talking out of their ass on the internet.

 

Why would you say that?

 

We need some sort of header at the top of threads that explains the difference between objectivity and subjectivity.

Objectivity: "The movie is 200 minutes long."
Subjectivity: "The movie is too long."

Objectivity: "Meryl Streep won awards for this role."
Subjectivity: "Meryl Streep was great in that role."

Objectivity: "That movie had a 25 percent on Metacritic."
Subjectivity: "That movie is really bad."

If the words being used are phrases that indicate subjectivity, the statement is subjective. "That movie was bad" and "I think that movie was bad" mean the same thing, but the former is more concise and stronger writing.

If someone says a movie is bad, it doesn't invalidate your opinion that a movie was great. It doesn't matter if you have an opinion that the vast majority of people agree with (saying Citizen Kane is a great movie) or an opinion most people would disagree with (saying Citizen Kane is a bad movie).

Whether or not people take your view seriously is another matter, but that comes down to a lot of other factors.
