    I haven’t read too much on the logistics of why theaters are taking this stance but it seems wild to be mad at studios using a different release model in the wildly unique context of a pandemic where theaters are all closed

    They better have this worked out soon. The theater in my city is AMC and I’m going to be mad if I don’t get to see Halloween Kills in theaters.

    the push to VOD has been steady over the past few years and the major chains have refused to show Amazon and Netflix movies because the window from theater to streaming was too short for them

    The theaters are trying to flex their power but are overplaying their hand. They refused to play The Irishman so everyone just went to the only local independent theater in the area to see it. People want flexibility and options and theaters are just one way for people to watch what they want.
