I think ticket prices will vary by movie. Let’s say Trolls 2 is a VOD movie and Black Widow isn’t. Trolls 2 tickets are $5 and Black Widow is $12. Also do more special events like Fathom. When my local theater does an anniversary screening of Indiana Jones the theater is actually pretty full.

If theaters truly make their money on concessions they just need to get people in the door.

The real question will also be if people show up.

 

This will probably accelerate the end of movie theaters. It was already trending toward theaters being devoted only to big blockbusters.

 

Yeah, there are some major shifts that I am hoping stick around after this is over, but this is one that I have nothing but bad feelings about.

 

The studios have been wanting to try this for years. Tower Heist was the last big push I can remember. The Interview also kind of had a digital+theaters release but that was before we really had a good VOD infrastructure. I remember "renting" The Interview and right clicking and it letting me just download a DRM Free MP4.

The distributers are going to be paying a ton of attention to the numbers they are getting for this. The real questions is which movies go VOD and which goto streaming services (iTunes/Vudu vs Disney+).

 

I'm not sure the numbers for the next couple weeks would be something you could build a reliable release model on, since Americans are in a incredibly unique situation. Maybe some data on price points, I dunno

Watched Boondock Saints last night for the first time. It's kinda wacky and fun, but I don't get the hype. The over-the-top tone of it reminded me of John Wick at times, but not as self-aware.

The score/music was not good and felt dated haha.

Ok, glad it's not just me. For some reason, it's always been highly regarded by friends when brought up.

 

I like to imagine the poster and/or DVD of it is in every single “bro” dorm room.

I'm pretty sure I would hate Garden State on a rewatch. I'm afraid to rewatch Juno because I remember liking that one.
