Well that's what happened. I got movie pass $10 unlimited and now I cant go back to $15 per movie.

Its also cause the streaming service entertainment has taken a humongous step in 2019. I haven't wanted to see anything until the "good" movies came out recently. I am completely on the "no more franchises" train for fucks sake

I feel all of this. MoviePass was a godsend, until it wasn't. A-List is doing a good job of filling the gap, but I miss being able to go whenever and wherever I wanted. But when you can get Netflix for a month for less than the cost of one movie ticket, and you don't have to leave the house...

If it wasn't for A-List I think I would have seen maayybe 5 movies at the theater all year, where now I'm doing about 5 a month. Though I plan on upping that this year.

I'd like to incorporate a little screewriting/directing lessons in my film class this year. I grabbed "The Portable Film School" by D.B. Gilles (no idea how good it is) to help. Does anyone have any other resources (activities/books) or good screenplays to analyze? They kinda threw a random group of kids in this year so I can't rely on them simply being interested in film. Looking at like 16-18 year olds

The Thomas Lennon screenwriting book is a very easy read

I still have a lot of my screenwriting books from school, and I still consider Robert McKee’s “Story” and Syd Fields’ “Screenplay” to be the most efficient and easy-to-read. “Screenwriters Bible” by David Trottier has always been my personal favorite because the book is dense and contains a lot of real-time activities/drills to help drive the course home. Blake Snyder’s “Save the Cat” is another one that efficiently explains what you need to know.

These are usually the most popular selections, but that’s because they have terrific information that is for both the diehard enthusiast and the novice. I have a few others that specifically teach dialogue, but I’m blanking in which ones they are.

edit: I was making a list and didn’t finish and accidentally posted. I’ll update with more and what about them is good when I’m home

I don’t love Save the Cat. I’ve seen lots of people come away with bad lessons from it

    Sidney Lumet - Making Movies
Lumet talks the craft up and down, and does so in terms that translate really well

    Hitchcock/Truffaut
Francois Truffaut interviewing Hitchcock about Hitchcock's work, but they boil a lot of the fundamental aims and mechanics of cinema as a medium to their essence.

What is Cinema - Andre Bazin
Coming at film from more of a critical lens, rather than as a craftsman like Lumet/Truffaut/Hitchcock

As for screenplays, Quiz Show, the Social Network, Chinatown, basically any Sidney Lumet, I don't know what's available to you or what you think your class might respond to/what you might be able to show them in class. I know in high school I had two different writing/literature classes with segments on film, in one our teacher showed us the Graduate, which is taught endlessly for good reason, and in another the teacher gave us the AFI's top 100 movies and had us all vote on which one we wanted to watch and analyze and we ended up doing Silence of the Lambs. Not that I'd necessarily recommend that one, though it is great to teach from, but having a list like the AFI list might let the students find something they're willing to engage in that would exemplify a lot of what you're trying to teach.

I have a $5 promo code for Fandango for someone, first come first serve. It can only be used to purchase a movie ticket to a theater (so no rentals or anything else Fandango does). It expires today and I won't be able to use it. Let me know once you've claimed it and I'll edit the post.

Random question, but maybe you know...

Do you know if there's a way to combine multiple Fandango codes for the purchase of one ticket? It doesn't seem like you can do that, but I couldn't find anything concrete other than it usually gives me an error when I try adding the second code.

Hmm. I'm not sure about that. I don't think I've ever tried entering more than one promo code.

Honestly, I'm at the point where I don't really care if something is re-made or not. If it comes out shitty, I just don;t watch it and I still have the original. There have been enough recent incidents of something being remade AMAZINGly. So I am not going to groan or anything at Parasite and HBO, I'm just going to wait and see

I don't hate every remake either, but I'd prefer a new original idea any day. I realize it's called show "business" but I wish more newcomers were given chances, rather than money only being put into things that are likely to have big returns.

I definitely prefer originals to remakes, but you can't argue that Watchmen is the favorite current show of A TON of people so it's not a science at all
