In the 10-15 years I've been going to these theaters, no that isn't a thing

The bad news: they’re not using the old theme song anymore

It is falling in more or less the same timeline as the superhero/Star Wars/blockbuster takeover of every single screen in the cinema. It can already be an unbearable experience when loud explosions bleed into introspective art films, and with a 55 inch 4K television there is little incentive to pay the money to go as more and more non-blockbusters go to Netflix or Amazon or wherever.

the only problem with assigned seats is sometimes dumbasses sit in the wrong seat but it's less likely then people yelling in a standard theater because there aren't better seats available

This pisses me off so much. Especially at sold out shows

You’re right and I think theaters know this. The conversion to reserved seating (often recliners) is designed with the idea that, despite lowering max seat capacity, it will bring in more people overall as going to the movies is sort of seen as an event, rather than just something spontaneous. And guess what, it works. The theater I work at used to be what is considered a class 2 theater (the classes indicating level of attendance) and then converted to reserved seating and bumped up to a class 4 in a year. We loss seats but gained customers. You’ll also see that a decent amount of theaters are also offering in auditorium dining. It’s an attempt to bring people back to the movies since they have less of an incentive now that huge TVs and surround sound systems are commonplace, as you’ve mentioned. It’ll evolve but it’s definitely not going anywhere.

I find the dining theaters so distracting. I have been to a few and the servers with their light-up menus and moving around ruins immersion.

There are a few theaters that do it right (Alamo Drafthouse, mainly) and A LOT that do it wrong (Studio Movie Grill, AMC). Even though it can occasionally be fun to eat a burger and watch some big dumb movie, ultimately I came to watch a movie, not be distracted by food. Besides there's much better/cheaper food at 1000 other places that I can go before or after the movie.

I assumed most theaters were already reserved seating. All 5 theaters in my city you pick your seat when you buy your ticket.

I live in the boonies so we're always late to everything. I heard our theater was supposed to be expanded so I wonder if they'll switch to reserved searing then. We tend to do things like ten years later than everywhere else lol

I love getting food and beer in a movie.

Just don't order fish & chips, that shouldn't be on the menu

I always try to avoid food theaters unless I know I'm gonna eat. I'll do it, but I hate going there just to watch a movie.

Running Wilde is only one season of 13 episodes but it’s actually very funny. It’s on Amazon Prime and I highly recommend it.

Not sure if there are any John Woo fans here, but I came across a Netflix original by him called Man Hunt which I thought was really cool. It's the first movie since he went back to doing movies in China that have gun fights again and man, did I miss them. No one does action like him and it was so nice to see again.

The movie has a overly ridiculous plot like all his movies, but its fun and his camera work is A+. If anything, just skip to the fight scenes :-)

  16. @Matt Hey I just noticed your Leftovers avatar! I've been talking about it a lot in here since I watched it all within the last like month or so.

The puppet movie looks like Sausage Party in that it seems you’re supposed to laugh from the fact that it’s a childish thing being crass rather than there being actual jokes.

uh oh. I'm hoping it is soooo much better than Sausage Party or I will not enjoy it :tear:

Which is something I don't care much for. It's like at thanksgiving when you have a ton of stuff on your plate and the runoff from your sweet potato casserole gets in your green beans

It originally looked like it was going to be more of a noir film maybe like a darker Roger Rabbit, then the puppet jizz trailer came out and everyone realized that was not the real direction.
