I don’t think it’s much different or worse than any of religion, so I’d be able to get past it.

 

Not to excuse the wrongdoing of other religions, but yes, Scientology operates quite differently.

and again, every religion has cult-like elements and a history of violence and abuses questionable fundraising, but Scientology is complicit in some very specific horrific shit.

 

Trust me, I know they're a shitty organization and wish they didn't exist. But you could look at Catholicism that has a history of death, child abuse, rape, etc... and they cover it up for them across the world and for the most part, they get away with it.

I know this isn't some kind of dick measuring contest between Scientology or any other major religion. I lump them all together in one pile of scum who won't stop short of horrific mental and physical abuse in order to gain billions and billions of dollars. Fuck them all.

I think that’s an ineffective response, you can’t address an organization’s unique problems by lumping them with all the other shitty organizations when they have their own unique problems. But you do you.

 

Sure, if I was wanting to start some campaign or rise up against one of them specifically I would need to be more educated on each of them. But when it comes to talking about being Tom Cruise's friend (lol), then his religion is just as batty as anyone else's.

Obviously Tom Cruise doesn't head down to the AMC and watch a movie lol but you would think he could say something more specific

 

Has anyone here ever watched Battlefield Earth

 

I haven't and most likely never will.

 

I imagine he goes to a lot of openings and showings among other film people who are passionate about it all so that prob is his experience like he's not down with us plebs who have to deal with people on their phones and giggling groups of teenagers and people crinkling wrappers so maybe it feels more magical. I mean I assume idk the lifestyles of the rich and famous lol. That and my only reference for a film opening experience is in Friends where Chandler falls asleep at Joey's movie premier.

 

Swimfan is the worst movie I've paid to see in theaters.

Oddly enough, the main character from Swimfan, who also starred in Parenthood, is an outspoken scientologist.
