It absolutely would not break the dude's career, lol. He can very easily just return to the Fast movies or some other IP

 

All the more reason to love someone like your great uncle for putting his wealth on the line to create art.

 

I personally think he has wanted to make a pivot or more serious acting roles for a long time but the brand that is The Rock just got more successful and the people around him r basically yes people but I read an interview with him and Emily Blunt and Emily openly said she wants and help him to take big swings and chances on future roles.. she's actually the reason that The Smashing Machine got made because she watched the documentary of the same name and called him back to say u need to get this movie made and she connected him with Benny Safdie and it got made and now her and DJ r gonna be in the next Scorsese film!

But in upcoming projects DJ is gonna start shooting the final Jumanji film this year for 2026 release and that's it when it comes the IP stuff.

Sony was going to do a new one awhile ago that was a more faithful interpretation of the (very fascist) novel, and Verhoeven came out and trashed it while it was still in development and it never ended up happening.

Hopefully this isn't the same that.
