It took all my strength to drag it from the front door to my office. Tomorrow I hope to find out more.

I have been getting up early and learning/practicing music theory stuff too. I was going to buy a SP404 hardware sampler this month but now I have car expenses. Send me some riffs or ideas and ill do a remix

There is just so much more to learn from now than when I got my first guitar in 2001. Trying to learn from old songbooks was such a different experience. When I was in college I played with a guy who started to teach me modes and it got too confusing and then we kind of faded apart.

learning about songwriting and the way keys and different chords work together is much more important than learning tabs or how to play specific songs. wish I learned that when I was a teenager trying to play dumb white stripes songs.

Yeah I remember hitting a wall when I was younger trying to work stuff out. Thanks to the little phone app game I can read sheet music now and im off

Yeah it really unlocked music for me in a way that it never made sense when I was playing around for hours trying to make stuff that people already mastered centuries ago. I think I thought it was too inhibiting to learn it that way or something. Then you realize the average person just wants to hear a nice four chord progression in the right key.

what’s the app? the caged system helped me a lot, and learning to find the key of a song that comes on by playing one string

  14. I’m very thankful that I was so interested in drums and percussion from an early age, many years before I even touched a guitar I was in band learning basic theory on xylophones/marimbas and whatnot. It didn’t all transfer over to guitar when I picked it up, but it laid a solid foundation before my brain was hijacked by pop punk clones in high school

i had a similar thing happen when i started playing drums/percussion in 6th grade. did 3 years of piano and sang in church choir enough to know how to read sheet music. transferring it all to xylophone was relatively simple. haven't really nailed guitar beyond basic chords, but i can at least visualize what i'd want to play thanks to my experience with sheet music.

I played drums/percussion all through school and was in the drum line in marching band and could read sheet music but haven’t touched anything in over 15 years so probably lost it all

The CAGED system I figured out on my own. It just made natural sense that a G chord would be an A chord if you went up two frets. I used a capo a lot back then because I was worried about my songs sounding the same

hell yeah, a fellow quad/tom player! i could only do it my senior year since almost everyone else was originally a year ahead of me when i started (did bass for 3 years), but i loved it.

yeah I was bass freshman year and then toms for 2 years and then quit my senior year cause I thought I was too cool. We had a cowbell on the toms the one year and a hi hat the other for our competitions.
