Thought that looks a lot like a cinema cartography video

It made me think a bit about the earlier conversation we had about television vs. film. If we plotted all movies on a line graph, on the pure entertainment side you would have stuff like The Emoji Movie or Spider-Man 4 and on the pure art side you would have stuff like Satantango or Mirror. I think most people would be comfortable dividing those two types of films and recognizing very clearly that they have different intentions and different audiences. Of course, it isn't always that clear. Spielberg makes incredibly entertaining films that wow people all around the world but they are often very thoughtful and well-made, while Scorsese makes deep artistic statements that nevertheless entertain a much wider group of viewers than traditional art films. The problem, like the narrator mentioned, is entertainment wants credit for being transgressive for doing almost nothing. When Jurassic World came out in 2015 every single critic seemed to have to mention that the characters make their own meta-commentary on the capitalist nature of the park and how everyone is thinking about only the bottom line, but then they literally have a character say "check this out" and it cuts to a car driving perfectly into frame or a mechanic in the hot jungle is refreshing himself with a Coca-Cola with the label right at perfect reading level.

Wonder if philosophers and theorist attack art for luring their audience with aesthetics into thinking they are having a meaningful experience with out the understanding that comes from the work of reading theory.

I don't know who said it but I think I saw a clip the other day of some awards presenter joking that people fell asleep during Dune 2. If a big action movie like Dune is considered too slow I don't know if we can save this entire project.

Its a small theatre but I saw Throne of Blood last night and it was 90% full and the screening of No Other Land last week was over sold with people sitting on the floor and extra chairs on the sides.

theres space for naps in Dune 2

I am listening to Julia Louis Dreyfus on the SAG Awards and I just caught her Baltimore accent slipping for the first time. She said "most" as "mowst"

Love that the SAG Awards are giving props to Law & Order for giving young up and coming actors a start for decades.
