  6. After binging I Think You Should Leave, I started watching Daria as the remastered French dub is getting an official release on YouTube, and I like it a lot. Definitely would've been obsessed with it had I watched it a decade ago like I was first supposed to! Despite its age, the themes still resonate and it doesn't seem that dated.

I'm reaching the end of S3 and I do find that season to be a bit weaker. I appreciate that it tries to change the formula up with themed episodes, even if the results are mixed.

TV *is* a medium where you could very correctly say that hardly any of it was particularly good until like the 90s. So even if it was an “all time” list, it’d be no surprise at all for any “Best X” about TV to be heavily skewed towards the the 21st century

I kind’ve agree with that. For the amount of shows that are/have aired, so few are good

Same can be said about movies especially in the age of streaming.

Definitely more movies, but there are more good movies from like a single year than there are overall good tv shows

true but a good show also lasts 3-6 years or whatever so you’re still get new episodes every year or so

There is no TV show better than anything on tetras top 100 list.
It's an extremely wasteful medium. A bad poem cost 1 person 20 mins and a piece of paper, and at least they were trying to say something. Every episode of TV is 100s of hours of people's time and 1000s of $$$$$$ for trash to sell ads slots for cars

Yeah but there’s like 3-4 shows ever that have episodes of tv that could rival a great movie

I don’t have his list memorized but off the top of my head sopranos, the wire, deadwood, seinfeld, justified, better call saul

it’s also just very silly to compare the 2 because they’re very different mediums. how do you compare a 2 hour movie to a show with 80 episodes?

that’s like picking out a 2 minute scene from a movie though, you watch the show as a whole and then judge it. no one just watches a random episode of season 3 of a show.

TV is the most commercial medium and the one that is most restrained creatively.

It has changed a lot the last few years but it is still a very workmanlike form of art-commerce. When you read about how they had to pump out episodes in the 22-episode season day it is very much antithetical to making art. Stuff like bottle episodes, season orders of episodes being cut down, cast members coming and going, all goes into the problems. The Sopranos is the greatest show of all time, but look at all the things you can point to that are poorly done or wrong.

You brought up the eps thing first not me!!!

I think brevity works in favor of film. Having a show go on for 3-6 years with quality dips or it hanging on too long is a common problem with the medium.

over the last decade, there has been more for me to enjoy from tv than film. the highest of the highs of tv doesn’t hit the way the equivalent of film does, but as a whole, the batting average is higher for me.

I brought up episodes as a reason why we don’t have more new great shows every year, the people working on the great shows are working on them for multiple years.

Brevity does work in favor of films but sometimes I want to watch an episode of the sopranos every night before bed for 3 months. I’m not going to watch goodfellas every night before bed. Two very different mediums. Just stating why I think television is good and has been great recently.
