So this is easier?

1. I don't know his name, so I have to Google "who played Short Round?" before I make fun of his bad movie.
2. Most people don't know who he is so unless they know the reference to the trailer and the film franchise it is emulating they have to Google his name and they will say "oh he is the guy who played Short Round".

It is much easier than people who refer to actors with very common names by their first name like they are friends or something.

And everyone loves Short Round! Temple of Doom is usually considered the worst of the original Indiana Jones movies. It is very racist, it has that very annoying female sidekick whose name I also don't know, and it is too violent in what is supposed to be a fun adventure movie. Short Round is the most fun part of the film.

If you were at a bar or restaurant with some friends and you were talking about movie trailers, you would refer to him as Ke Huy Quan? You know that name off the top of your head? When people at the table inevitably don't know that name, what role are you going to reference?

You mentioned that role was 40 years ago, but Star Wars is even older and people are going to know Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker. You might refer to Harrison Ford as Han Solo, but someone like that has been so famous and has had so many roles that the common person knows who he is.
