i probably should've said distributor and not producer. the OG and 10CL were released by Paramount, and Paramount sold Paradox to Netflix for distribution, with both studios being listed in the opening credits (although Paramount retained home video distribution rights). i figured they'd want to keep the films going through the same studio, but i could be wrong. is JJ's WB deal inclusive of all Bad Robot productions going forward or would studios like Paramount retain the rights to any future installments?

It would depend on if Paramount actually had any rights to the franchise, which I have no idea about personally. But Paramount appears to be a co-producer for Paradox but that’s probably because they paid for it and then dumped it to Netflix. It could’ve just been that Bad Robot liked their relationship and they kept working together. But if Paramount never actually had any rights to it, WB at least gets the first look now.

that makes sense. per Wikipedia, the next film was still being developed at Paramount as of 2021, but Bad Robot is no longer part of Paramount. all but 4 of their upcoming films are WB projects, but Cloverfield supposedly isn't one of those. who knows?

Yeah it’s all just guessing without knowing the deals and stuff. I guess we just have to wait and see. I’m excited for that movie either way.

“It could have been better” - the JJ Abrams motto.

I just wish Cloverfield didn’t get all mixed up in JJ’s mystery box era. He could have just used it as a jumping off point for new directors to create their own installment in that world. Instead, it was what it was, to the point where the movie “Overlord” was rumored to be another “Cloverfield” movie and wasn’t at all.

agreed. iirc, a similar thing happened with A Quiet Place (re: it potentially being connected)

I don’t think I ever finished Cloverfield Paradox. What’s the loose connection it has to the OG?

she was definitely distracting, especially since the rest of the cast was great

essentially the events of the film (the firing of the particle accelerator) resulted in creatures from parallel universes (i.e. the creatures from the first two) coming to Earth (or possibly multiple versions of Earth) at different points in time, with the final shot being a quick cameo of the monster from the first film. on paper, i'm not opposed to that being the explanation if they wanted to establish a connection between all the films (even though i liked the original origin story of the monster from the first movie a lot better, and they should've all been disconnected stories), but it's pretty much shoehorned in and never expanded upon in a way that matters.
