I like it. Makes the show funnier. Jerry is a hack.

this is ridiculous on so many levels lol jerry is wildly successful in the show! he can buy his dad a Cadillac, he’s on the tonight show, got an nbc pilot picked up, etc. his friend’s ambivalence to his success is funny but he’s killing it in a comedy club (whether you like the jokes the house is packed and everyone’s laughing) before every show, he’s written as a good comedian!

I mean there are a ton of successful comedians that are hacks. Jeff Dunham is super successfully and has been on the tonight show. He’s not a good comedian.

Jerry Seinfeld as a person fucking sucks but a lot of this recent discourse that he was more or less a puppet for Larry David’s creative vision, having nothing really to do with what made the show great, is absolutely revisionist history

yeah i hate arguing this point because his work after the show is so abysmal but jerry 100% is part of why seinfeld is such a good show and he's fantastic in it

It also speaks to kind of this larger point of people defaulting to “oh this person’s art sucks anyway” when they get outed as being a POS and how deeply it operates in bad faith reasoning, but w/e

he has a very different relationship with each of the three side characters and acts it out flawlessly depending on who is in the scene. a george and kramer scene plays out very differently than a kramer and elaine scene or a solo elaine or george scene etc. and the reason the show is such an elevated sitcom experience despite being about "nothing" is because this intertwined relationship web feels authentic and real. jerry plays the straight man perfectly but he does it differently depending on the characters hes dealing with

Some of you are taking a funny tweet about Jerry steinfeldt too seriously. I do think thinking about the show in the context is funny though.

    Ill defend him alittle.
Part of his core complaint is valid. To create a TV show or movie creatives have to have their work approved by corps to get the funding. This creates a conflict of interests and the power imblance heavily benefits the money holders and that sucks for the artist. This is art comdified under liberal captialism. It was the system when he made Seinfeld and its the same system today. It has continued down the same capitalist path of risk aversion and wealth extraction.

What has changed is now his ideas have become outdated and are no longer align with what the corps view as being a free risk way to to extract giant profits from a mass audience. Its the safest comedian of the 90s first time experiencing any pushback and hes become very confused and upset. It has nothing to do with the far left and its a shame people think that more corporate wokism is how art would function under socalism.

Yep. Which is sort of the flipside of the coin to being able to ignore problems with the artists you are a big fan of. If they're morally bad, they must make bad art. So that thing you say about my fav can't be true! They make good art!

Saw “Wet Hot American Summer” for the first time with an audience.

Was an outdoor screening and the volume was kind of low, so that didn’t help. But everyone laughed pretty consistently. They were not on board with any of the kid-adult romance stuff and audible groans at the three gay slurs. It was free so I think a lot of people were expecting a straightforward comedy. Was fun to hear them say “What the fuck?” when something like a can of vegetables says it can suck its own dick.

The La La Land co-worker is probably the most annoying one. The Fight Club one thinks they are smarter than they are. The most helpful one is probably the Fast and the Furious one. The Thing one has the best stories at lunch.

I imagine the Gummo chooser was very similar to the weird shift engineer i worked with who recomended I watch Ken Park. One of my primary roles was communicating between him and the disney adults in the office who did not understand his ways.

Garfield I guarantee is probably the older white lady whose either the office manager or HR. She does have a Garfield mug, a Garfield calendar, and a Garfield mousepad, her screensaver is Garfield.

Kung Fu Panda 3 is a mom who doesn't have time to watch movies on her own so she just picked one her kid has on all the time.
