We watched October sky a lot in middle school and I don’t remember anything about it.

Romeo+Juliet is another one that has become a standard in every high school English class come time they start their Shakespeare unit.

We read the Handmaid's Tale last year and I was able to cut around the first episode to show them about half of it.

They wanted to watch the new House of Usher show because it debuted about a month after we read it until I told them it had nothing to do with each other.

Yeah I've heard kids talking about Romeo+Juliet this year and last, def watching it in their english classes

I also remember being shown October Sky in middle or high school.

We also had a substitute teacher back in middle school that just brought a VHS copy of The Mummy with him every time, so I got to watch The Mummy a lot in middle school lmao.

One of the English teachers at my old school only had Surf's Up but she would always start it from the beginning on days with testing or whatever so kids would say they remembered the first 40 minutes of Surf's Up by heart but nothing else.

In 8th grade science we were doing units on I think estuary systems or something like that, even took a field trip to Chesapeake Bay to ride a clipper ship and all that. But for some reason, I think because of the clipper ship thing/talking about fishing waters or something like that, the entire 8th grade went to the auditorium later in the school year to watch The Perfect Storm. I liked the movie a lot but I couldn't for the life of me tell you why we all watched that lol

edit-it was an oyster skipjack ship actually, not a clipper ship. That felt wrong to me as I posted it anyway knowing my history lol

Decided to look up the teacher's name because I remember she passed like 10-15 years ago pretty young, and found this article:
Top marine science teacher is honored
This article is from the summer after I was in her 8th grade class so yeah I def remember doing these things lol. I was a bit of a class clown at that age and she did NOT like me. I almost got kicked out of that 3 day trip to Cape Henlopen for, on the last night, putting on a michael myers mask as we walked back from the campfire where scary stories were told and scaring the hell out of everyone. The girls especially were doing very loud high pitched screams and were still screaming on and off long after I had made it back to my cabin lol. Someone ratted me out though and our chaperone (who was our hallway's special ed teacher and none of his knew him very well but thought he was hilarious those 3 days) came to the cabin and said "You need to go to the mess hall now, Ms. Zsoldos is waiting for you. I told her "take it easy on the lad" lmao. They said they were getting calls from nearby camps from all the screaming, and threatened to call the helicopter and have me flown home immediately. I should also preface this by saying me and a friend had already gotten read the riot act the day before because we were arguing with a girl over whose bathroom/shower was grosser, and as we walked by she said "see look" and we leaned our heads into the open girls bathroom door when no one was in there and of course a chaperone was walking by right as it happened and turned us in like we were "In the girls bathroom" which we definitely were not lol.

The marsh walk we did was pretty cool, we had kids falling into the mud waist deep, and I lost BOTH of my shoes in the mud and had to walk back barefoot on a rocky road.

Anyway, I'm a teacher of 9th graders now and fully getting the karma I am owed for being a jackass in 8th grade:crylaugh:

My 8th grade teacher showed us The Goonies and Dead Poet Society which was pretty sweet. Watched Jurassic Park in another class that year for the first time, too.

Freshman English teacher showed us Romeo and Juliet and the class was dying laughing as my teacher tried to fast forward past the topless scene but accidentally paused it instead

He showed us that Baz Lurhman one too and I hated it

Regardless if that movie was good or not, Love Fool by the Cardigans in that was probably the greatest movie needledrop of the 1990's.

For years I would get that stuck in my head and I didn't even know the name of the song, it was just "the Romeo + Juliet song"

I truly don't think I've ever rewatched it ever since I saw it as a teenager on TV or something.

I don't like it but I've seen it a million times because of my mom and sisters. They got the soundtrack too and were constantly singing along to it in the house haha

The girl I had a crush on in middle/high school was big into musicals and because of that I know more of them than a dude who never did theater probably would normally lol. She wasn't big on Grease but my mom loved it, and my sister played Cha Cha her senior year when her HS chose it as the musical that year.

I'll still leave it on when I flip through channels and see it's on TV.
