Two listens down and I think this is good without being great. The Spark and Nothing Is True were so immediate for me that I’m surprised this hasn’t grabbed me. I’ll give it time, They haven’t failed me yet
I literally cannot hear The Spark on any songs in the instrumentation - in comparison to the albums. Yeah maybe the vocal melodies are like The Spark, but I hear overwhelming Nothing Is True vibes from the vocals.
Idk it sounds the closest to The Spark and Nothing Is True to me than any other records. The math pop/indie pop Everything Everything-y influences they started incorporating on the former are all over the album, even though it's mixed with beefier undertones this time. Sometimes I hear them in specific moments in the instrumentation or the vocals such as the title track, (pls) me on fire's verses, etc.
just finished they don't waste even a second here, sure it boils down to a 9-track album but this is just banger central back in? yeah I'm back in
Settling on this song being one of their best, the chorus is incredibly massive. Feels like it should have been the closer though!
!!! Glad you like it!! Definitely agree that it’s one of their most concise records. Think it’ll bring in some new fans
Haven't had a chance to listen yet but is there anywhere convenient to slip in The Void Stares Back? Lol
Remember how I said the singles are very underwhelming and empty?? HOLY SHIT THE OPENING TRACK IS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! Leap Into The Lighting,Jailbreak and Giant Octopus are also standouts!
I wasn't too hyped for this for some reason, but after listening it's really good! Love the past song references throughout!
Just saw your comment and I absolutely agree this is one of their best songs they ever made…it could easily fit in Rat Race EP too!
Closing track is the most “interesting” imo, the phrasing of the verse is so sick and feels the most like treading different waters or writing with different ink
first listen, i'm not loving this at all. feels hugely lacking in the lyricism/emotion of the past few albums and there's some baffling moments. the hook to goldfish has me laughing, not in the good way either hoping i'm wrong on this one really, but from the 2022 singles on this has been my least favourite era by so far :/
Made a playlist with the Kiss being opener and King from the last album being closer.Wish they kept that one for this album,it would fit right in!
I havent been really into Shikari since like A Flood of Colour era and kinda started to lose interest during The Mindsweep, but I'll give this record a shot
