It's crazy how many times the starting part of Motherstep has played in my head for the past 10 years.
If they released an album consisting purely of their singles, it would be one of their best records - and that's saying something.
It was a b-side, but I think they've shoved it onto the end of The Mindsweep as a bonus track on DSPs now.
For anyone who fancies it, I actually made a playlist of the Enter Shikari "collection". I've done it for a few bands, but essentially it's all of their songs from oldest to newest in chronological order of release. It includes b-sides and demos, but I avoid live recordings and remixes.
Yea, this absolutely crushes it too. Damn, I have no idea why I just stopped listening to these guys for like a decade. So good.
Feels like it was headed this way Common Dreads Nothing Is True... A Flash Flood Of Colour (If their non-album singles were ever released as one record, they'd land here in the rankings) The Spark The Mindsweep Take to the Skies A Kiss For the Whole World For the record, I still like the bottom two, I just don't enjoy them on the same level as the other albums.
This is wild, The Spark is much less consistent of an album than AKFTWW. Pls Set Me on Fire is better than anything on The Spark. I like this album more than TTTTS too. I like everything else more though
My favourite song from AKFTWW is Jailbreak, and I'd take An Ode to Lost Jigsaw Pieces, Live Outside and Airfield over it. I'll never get the hate for The Spark; I re-listened to it this morning. Maybe because people measure it against other Shikari albums and they weren't prepared for the sonic shift.
I've not listened to it since it came out but I don't remember liking anything at all about The Spark. A Kiss for the Whole World is way better for me.
It's the production honestly. A lot of the songs that feel like they have energy or should have more energy are just flattened by the production. But it's way, way better than A Kiss for The Whole World. I love Rou, but they need an outside influence to push them to try new things and see things differently creatively so I hope they have a new producer for the next album.
Meanwhile I'm here thinking this is one of the best albums of 2023, seemingly a very unpopular opinion - ticket booked to see them for the first time in Dublin in March!
I don't hate The Spark (I'm sure others do), but I do think the production and songwriting is less interesting than this album. This is definitely a weaker album from Shikari, but I think the opinions in this thread are a bit hyperbolic about this album's quality.
Nah, they're not hyperbolic. This album is just mediocre. Pls is great, Dead Wood is great and that's about it.
I don't think it's an unpopular opinion considering it topped the charts and is huge in the UK apparently. I just think it's very bland compared to literally all their other work.
