finally got around to this and it is a little disappointing. too repetitive. hopefully it'll grow on me.
it could be a thing they're doing for UK/IE/EU markets because that's where the chart push is at the moment
It did for me *shrug* I don't know. I don't use iTunes so maybe it just works on the site, not the app?
Just got my vinyl in the mail. It has a sticker stuck right on the front jacket and I’m wondering how easy it is to remove. I’m having flashbacks to the Brand New Devil and God sticker that completely ruined my copy when I removed it. Has anyone removed theirs? As for the album, can’t say I’m not disappointed by it. Enter Shikari has been a huge band for me since 2009 and I’ve loved all of their releases prior to this one. The Spark was a rough spot but it at least had songs that I enjoyed on it, even if the album as a whole didn’t do much for me. Kiss so far is pretty middle of the road / boring other than Great Pacific Octopus. Hopefully it’ll grow on me in time but for the time being it’s been a huge letdown.
I really enjoy the newest two records, but I really hope they go back to working with an external producer for the next record the Mindsweep is so good
They just covered this with Cody Frost for BBC Radio 1. Hope it ends up on YouTube soon because it slapped.
As a Shikari fan of 11-ish years, your whole post is one of the best summaries of the band's trajectory I've ever read. Overall I consider them a "challenging" band, in that I feel like they consistently challenge my expectations and comfort zone. I have my favorite records and songs, but I don't think they've put out a single "bad" album. Everything they do, no matter how they do it, is valuable IMO. I guess that's the beauty of a band that lives long enough to have a large discography - even if something isn't my cup of tea, the next thing they do might be and it may even change my mind on what came before.
Jailbreak is a "pretty good" song. Until the second half, then it becomes amazing. There are so many delicious layers to dive into.
Kisses,Leap and Jailbreak are top Shikari songs. As I said before I also added King from the last album here and it just fits and makes the whole album complete. This is honestly the most I enjoyed Shikari since Mindsweep.
BTW if anyone else was looking for a way to slot "Void" and "Bull" into the track listing, I came up with what I think is the smoothest flowing order. Listening to the singles and record in isolation it may not seem like they'd be a good fit, but the record has so many elements spanning their career that the below placement feels pretty nice. 1. A Kiss for the Whole World x 2. (pls) set me on fire 3. It Hurts 4. Leap into the Lightning 5. feed yøur søul 6. The Void Stares Back 7. Dead Wood 8. Bull 9. Jailbreak 10. Bloodshot 11. Bloodshot (Coda) 12. goldfĭsh ~ 13. Giant Pacific Octopus (i don’t know you anymore) 14. giant pacific octopus swirling off into infinity…
I just whacked The Void Stares Back on at the end. It works for me and saves the best song for last haha.
[extremely Rou Reynolds voice] GET IN Enter Shikari net first-ever Number 1 album with A Kiss for the Whole World
not enough love for pls set me on fire in this thread, that song has hooks for days and sounds immaculate.
