me, but empty country ii. you probably know this already though. absolutely. empty country ii has my favorite lyrics on any album i’ve heard in several years.
ECII has ended up something I rarely listen to although it's not really because of the album itself. moreso because Joe and I had a really great back and forth for weeks about doing an interview about it and when I sent my questions he totally ghosted me lmao. I totally get life stuff getting in the way and all but not hearing a word after I spent a week writing up questions kinda stung lol all that aside I think the more concise songwriting/production on the first EC just agrees with me more, and goddamn if it didn't pretty much carry me through covid
I think both records are great and I played the shit out of ec2 when it came out, but I revisit ec1 a lot more. 2 is very dense in a cool way but it definitely makes it the less “throw on at any time” of the two to me.
Revisiting ECII, my main blocker to enjoyment remains the vocals, which seem distinctively yelpier / less melodic than its predecessor.
Agreed, II is a very good and dense record with some great moments, but the stars just really aligned in that first record.
