I’d never listened to this album before (or anything he’s done besides Benji) and it’s fantastic and see exactly what you meant.
Damn that interview got me. Not to self-promote or be TMI or whatever but I relate so specifically to the circumstances of being rejected creatively and otherwise, having a breakdown, making a record about it, and getting medicated. The past year has been an absolute nightmare of a trip but I'm glad I'm still here making music and I'm so glad this album exists to parallel that experience
Also idk who his old manager and booking agent were but what the fuck man, how dumb do you have to be to drop someone after they turn in one of the best records they've ever made
I have the same problem with this record that I had with Pretty Years which is that I love the first track so much I keep playing it over and over instead of listening to the rest of the album
watching the kexp session videos for the pretty years era songs is bumming me out. on what ended up being their last tour they played a 21+ venue and i was still a few months away from 21 :// would've really dug these, joe's guitar playing on wish is really cool :(
can't say I really had that with Pretty Years, I think the first half of that album is just fine but the second is some of his best work
winced so hard I think I pulled a muscle in my face, ooooooofffffff hope Get Better Records are able to replace that!
