Alrighty, let's give this a try.

 

Idk, I just can't get into his vocal style for the life of me. Same issue I have with the Weakerthans and the Mountain Goats, really. I don't hate anything about this but that's still what's holding me up from latching onto it.

That said, Warmth Perimeter is a cool track.

 

I get that. It's a bummer when something stops you from getting in to music you can tell is ostensibly "good". I can never listen to Pet Sounds because when I was a kid my parents used to drive around listening to it on road trips so now I associate that record with having a headache and I just can't get past it :/

That said, it's a real bummer that you can't learn to like John Darnielle's voice because that I put that dude's probably got the best/most consistent catalogue of any singer-songwriter in American music history.

 

Yeah, it's a bummer for me too with both the bands I mentioned since both are so well liked around here and I feel like I'm missing out. It's always possible they'll click out of the blue sometime though.

 

For the mountain goats I would suggest you start with get lonely - he sounds a lot less obnoxious on that record, haha - and then if you like that one work your way out from there. That's what sold me. The Weakerthans probably just aren't for you tho *heartbreak emoji*

 

Will do. FWIW I did like Reconstruction Site the few times I listened, it just didn't pull me back in. The other two weren't really my cup of tea at all.

 

They're a slow grower, took reconstruction site like a year to become one of my favorites ever

 

Not listening to pwr bttm has given me a lot more time to listen to this album and I am loving it. I think I listened like 4 times yesterday, quickly becoming one of my favorites of the year.

Warmth Perimeter sounds a lot like a Hot Chip song. Which is not a bad thing!

Taking a break from Paramore to listen to this again. The first half is so good, but I haven't spent enough time with the second half. I listen to most of my music at work and inevitably get interrupted before making it through the whole thing. And when I come back to it I find myself with one of the first 5 tracks stuck in my head so I go back to that and listen again (and again) haha.
