exactly this thread is my home the title track is probably my favorite of the "new" songs so far. wow
i spent a whole lot of time with this album this weekend. probably listened about half a dozen times so far. don't read if you don't want to hear a lot about this album. one of the things that's always hard for me with his records is separating the live experience from the album. i'd seen wasted on the senate floor, 30000 euros, tanline cebris, and riot for descendant command live, had listened to low orbit ion cannon a ton on the live compilation, and had heard brown recluse a little bit through the youtube videos. i'm immediately biased to say i wish the recorded stuff had as much energy as the live stuff but then i remember it never does. that's one of the cons to it, but the pro is that the live stuff gives the songs another way to get really hooked on them, and once you're able to separate the renditions that's when the songs really click for you. i haven't gotten to that phase yet. i'm a real big fan of the album renditions of low orbit ion cannon and tanline debris. wondering who drummed on this/at least on tanline debris, that's something i'm going to ask chad. i've already given my thoughts on 30000 euros and wasted on the senate floor, but riot for descendant command is a song that needs that energy and i think it doesn't work as well as i wish it would. fun song but the arrangement doesn't really work for me. schopenhauer in berlin is becoming one of my favorites after being my least favorite single. the songs transition into each other super well on this and in the context of that album that song works perfectly. really hope he plays that one live when i see him on one of the two dates. warmth perimeter is so out of place on this but it's pretty much what i expected this album to sound like after the last one and based on what he was saying was "new music". a chill, electronic jam that shows off his weird side more than anything else on here. almost wish there was a little more like this, also makes me curious to hear what people will be doing remixing this song once people get the stems from the preorder. also check out the stephen steinbrink album, i heard him last year when chad was hyping his release and it's really good weird folk stuff. oversleepers international is probably my favorite on here, definitely out of the newer songs. just hits all the things i love about his music, the arrangement is fantastic too. this album is the first time i've realized that he and christian (hotelier) actually cover some of the same ground vocally. i'm sure chad was influenced a bit from spending so much time with christian (and vice versa of course, since christian has loved the project for a while), and i think god save coastal dorset (which is also one of my least favorite songs on the album) is the closest resemblance you can hear to that. actually curious if christian is there doing backup vocals as well, would make a lot of sense. the closer could probably use about 6 minutes (or more) cut off from the end. wondering if the actual version will be that long, have a feeling it's just going to be a locked groove on the vinyl. if not, well, that's such a chad thing to do, haha. anyways this is easily the longest i've wrote on an album since my reviewing days. really really like it of course and it's still growing on me, but it wasn't the immediate punch in the face i irrationally wanted? should have known better but right now it's still easily one of my favorites of the year, definitely the record i have the most emotional attachment to. we'll see how long i'm still listening to this
also nobody can ever complain about me "drewbing" because at least i posted more than "this is his best album yet" "you guys will love this" i earned it with this "review" lol
I really like the long drone portion at the end and I don't really know why. It makes me feel nice. The album is really good and I agree that the title track is the best on here, but I love Warmth Perimeter a lot (and agree that it's kind of an outlier)
my roommate asked me if this album was a hotelier spinoff band cause he thought it was christian singing lol. I am totally inlove with basically everything with this album so far, but still need to spend more time with it. God Save Coastel Dorest is my early favourite though, along side 30,000
