http://www.vulture.com/2017/12/review-eminem-revival.html Gonna go ahead and assume Craig Jenkins nailed it like usually does
I dunno maybe it's too early to say but I think I like this more than MMLP2. Biggest weakness with this album though is there are wayyy too many songs that follow that same pop rock instrumental with pop singer chorus formula. Tragic Endings, Nowhere Fast and Need Me are all basically the same song lol. Still think Arose is one of his best post hiatus songs.
BTW this album is on track to debut with 280-300k for SPS. Thats pretty bad considering MMLP2 did like 700k first week.
The first two songs had to hurt it. I really have no desire to listen to either song ever again. Easily his worst first impression imo. Edit: also the first Eminem album I haven't bought. And have no plans to
Yeah I honestly need someone to explain to me their logic in making the 2 worst songs on the album the lead singles. Why not just make River the lead single and guarantee yourself a 600k first week??
Seriously. The second that song started I was dumbfounded as to how they didn't choose this as the single. I think that or the Alicia Keys song could've given this a few extra hundred thousand first week out.
Beyoncé is popular and the songs is all over the radio so it appears to be working, I doubt it's the single that is hurting sales
I can't believe 2017, an Eminem album comes out with an Ed Sheeran feature, and it ends up being one of the highlights of the album
The Kehlani song is pretty good (or at least, inoffensively listenable). Wouldn't be surprised if it gets a single push.
I don't like the songs in Revival album, coz Eminem became a bigger figure in mainstream music by collaborating with Beyonce, Ed Sheeran etc. Only song I'm interested a little more than others is "Like Home" because of its lyrics and political messages. I especially like this part. "Similar to when two cars collide 'cause our spirits are crushed This spot's a tight one But here the jaws of life come to pull us from the wreckage That's what we get pride from When we can't wear stars and stripes 'cause this type of pickle we're in is hard to deal But there's always tomorrow still If we start from the scratch like a scab for scars to heal" This song is like a slap to Trump. Really shocked that Pitchfork gave this a better review than Recovery and MMLP2. But still think its a fair review, and happy to finally see a review that acknowledges how great Castle/Arose is. https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/eminem-revival/?mbid=social_facebook I don't think this is a great album, probably his worst or second to worst IMO, but it still has some solid songs on it. These reviews I'm seeing from places like CoS that gave it an F are just a little ridiculous.
So I've listened to this a bunch and I think there's a ton of really good stuff in here. It's not peak Eminem but it doesn't totally suck like this thread lead me to believe!
I’ve come around to “Walk On Water”. The beat could be better (drums please) but the lyrics are really potent.
The music video made me appreciate the song a little more, but still one of my least favorites from the album.
