They're in their 40s. That's what dudes in their 40s with kids look like.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

    Truly weird comments

  6. Has there been any updates regarding new music? A while back, I remember seeing a video with Toby explaining they were about to record an album with a similar process as Rub Some Dirt on Me, except it was apparently scrapped afterwards? It's not on their channel anymore so the video must've been privated. It seems like they've only been doing album tours since, so I'm not sure if I missed anything else

I love Emery to death, but I really don’t understand how they release anymore. Like, I feel like it’s been over a year since they took White Line Fever off streaming saying a better mix/master is being worked on, but haven’t heard anything there. I feel like by the time White Line returns most people will have forgotten that was even an album they ever did. Pretty sure they were gonna give In Shallow Seas We Sail a re-recording like they did with I’m Only a Man but who knows.

I’ve subscribed to their Emeryland thing a few times over the years and it never quite clicked for me, some cool bonus content but that’s mostly it I could find. I don’t know if there’s anywhere they give members more info on releases or what. I feel like their last few albums were solid, but kinda dropped with a thud because of how they market releases now.

If information is out there and I’m just missing it I’d love to know, it’s just been very weird following them the last few years.

The Songs & Stories podcast has really dropped off as well and seems to be very sporadically released, which is a shame as when that emerged from the remnants of Bad Christian, the inclusion of Devin and then guests like Aaron Gillespie, was great.

In terms of new music, I’m sure Toby said in one of the sporadically released episodes that there are no plans and they’ve been focused on the 20 year The Question celebrations. I think?

Rub Some Dirt On It was phenomenal, but I’m ok with them slowing down and producing something on par with that again.

I don’t get the White Line Fever removal at all.

In terms of Emeryland, remember when it first launched they said they’d release a new album EVERY year (think it was May?) With the podcast seemingly on the back burner and the lack of new music, I’m not sure what the purpose or value of it is anymore. I wonder if they have had a drop off of backers for it these days.

It’s funny as for a season they were probably the most productive band around from that era - multiple podcasts, albums and other releases, live shows - basically complete access. So I guess it’s jarring that this has gone, but they’ve been very active in terms of live music in 2024 and this year seems the same, with the nostalgia (The Weak’s End last year, The Question this year).

Unfortunately I think they’ve realized outside of nostalgia they can’t make money

Admittedly, they kinda set themselves up coming out of the fence swinging with Walls. Walls is the only reason why most people I know even know this band exists. It’s just real rough to open your discography with a song that good. Hard act to follow.

I feel like 6-8 years ago they’d worked out an efficient way of monetising their core fan base though. I thought they’d created a more sustainable model for this kind of band. But then they’ve neglected that core more recently. The nostalgia was almost a top up for reaching the wider audience. I guess you’re right in that they can make more money with that, particularly with The Weak’s End and The Question. However, I would disagree that they can’t make money outside of that - I think they had a good model until the last two years.

It is an admittedly strong start. Still think they’ve surpassed it as they’ve gone on.

100% agree. Rub Some Dirt On It in particular is just a brilliant album and shows their years of maturity.

Eve was cool to see them explore slightly different aspects of their sound. I like it a lot although I haven’t listened to it for a while.

  14. Weren’t they a little ahead of their time with the podcast? I don’t remember any other bands doing something of the sort this early. Or perhaps there was already a podcast boom and I just didn’t notice at the time

For a band that never got that big it was pretty incredible to see how strong of a second wind they got in the podcast era, especially since it was ushered in by what I think is one of the best scene releases of the last 10 years in YWNA. Thought that album should’ve taken the site by storm. Still, it was cool to see em seemingly be so successful/productive/visible. I’m not a big podcast listener so I fell away from the community after a while but I too thought they’d settled on a good, sustainable model. Bummer to see them fall away a bit too but can’t blame em, they did *so much.*

I'm not sure their model (podcasts and such) is sustainable forever. They started their podcast so far back that they probably ran out of steam.
Plus the messy fallout with Joey probably killed some enthusiasm to keep going.

I feel like We Do What We Want was the last album of theirs that I got REALLY into at release and listened to it 4-5x a week for several months and I still go back to it often actually, probably more than the Question and In Shallow.

You Were Never Alone was good, I still go back to it sometimes. But every album after that I listen to 1-2x release week and then sort of forget about.

I feel like that album is like straight 9’s, where as a lot of my other favorites from them have much lower lows, but also some higher highs.

yeah i think thats a fair assessment, its consistency is its virtue

agree generally that the three after arent as strong but i still like all of them. eve is an odd album where the transitions are so integral to how the record was constructed yet the tracklist is really sloppy lol

I felt this upon first listen. It’s their most dynamic record yet so cohesive, and the songwriting just feels so mature and fully realized. It breaks free of emo/post-hardcore yet wouldn’t fit in any other scene. Endlessly catchy. I just said it before but it had the feel of a record that would blow the website away to me and I still can’t grasp why it didn’t. Top 10-15 record of the decade for me.

i’ve been meaning to tell you

few reasons it probably didn’t have as much hype - it came out after an album that was a pretty big departure for what (i think) people like about emery and it wasn’t clear that devin was back, it was on indigogo at what seemed like the height of the kickstarter band craze, it was delayed almost a year, and the album cover absolutely sucks. i’m not sure how many people that weren’t hardcore emery fans actually listened to it.

  25. I completely forgot about the indiegogo but it suddenly reminds me that they posted a demo of one of the songs like a year earlier and it didn't sound... great, or at least the screams were very rough. At the time, I think the band lost my radar

4 years is a relatively long wait as well, even though there was that Matt & Toby record inbetween
