Took me a while to realize that wasn’t emery and their friends jamming to their own song bc I think they would do that haha
Haha it wasn’t planned at all either, just 3 life long friends who love emery and a room full of people who had no idea what was going on. Lol it was my house so whatever! Definitely scared a few people
YWNA release week interviewer: Do you guys think you're going to take as long to put out the next one? Toby: *Laughs* No, we're gonna aim for a much more regular album cycle next time around. 3 years later me:
@teebs41 definitely with you on no screaming. Rock, Pebble, Stone and The Less You Say are two of my favorites off of YWNA, and I really don't like Thrash.
I think I like the melodic moments of thrash enough to sort of put up with the screaming. Actually I hated the screaming but then I read the lyrics on genius and I was like this really fits the story so good on them for that. I strongly suggest going to genius for YWNA theres so much brilliant stuff they did that gets overlooked.
Without it, we wouldn't have received the wonderfully Norma Jean-esque Salvatore Wryhta though..there's some great screamed lines on there.
yea I think that it works for them on that album the best. It doesn't feel forced... well sometimes it does like the prechorus to hard times. I just want them to scream on the really heavy moments and be more selective about it. if half the songs had screaming I would be perfectly happy with that. Not every song needs it
Yes, unfortunately his screams were somewhat indecipherable on this one. They haven't aged very well since ISSWS, honestly, and sound more like a yell now than anything else. In hindsight, one of the few things I'd change about YWNA is the amount of layering/compression on the harder vocal parts. If it sounds raw, and you're going for an organic sound, then let it be just that.
Shameless promo plug: if you're aching for more Emery sounds but can't wait until LP7, check out our friend teebs's new record. Notable creative influences from your favorite bands, with moments like "The Escape" outro establishing itself as a deserved 2018 highlight and must-listen. Out of Service - Morning
Still need to check it out, but what I heard from Kestrel gave me major Emery vibes in the best way possible.
This is the song we’ve been pushing, I really think emery fans will love this. Also thanks so much for the complement! And for listening.
