Remixed versions are cool but without the intensity and emotion of the originals I don't like them as much. Only album I love is In Shallow Seas... have tried other albums and they just don't click the same way.
BadChristian Con This is happening - Saturday night of the con is a concert with Emery, King's Kaleidoscope, and As Cities Burn, if not more.
Seeing everyone go nuts over the story of the year album and all I can think is how much better emery plays the genre than they do... lol
There's not any news on the new album afaik, BUT I spent some time the other day crafting my ideal 19 song Emery set. What do y'all think Rock Pebble Stone Thrash Playing With Fire I'm Not Here For Rage I'm Here For Revenge The Party Song Left With Alibis and Lying Eyes Addicted to Bad Decisions Pink Slip Taken For A Bath Piggy Bank Lies The Curse of Perfect Days In Shallow Seas We Sail Listening to Freddie Mercury After the Devil Beats His Wife In A Lose, Lose Situation Cutthroat Collapse ENCORE: So Cold I Could See My Breath Dear Death Pt 2 Walls
Anyone else sort of wish they just stopped screaming? I know it’s a weird thing to wish with a band of such a history but I just think their vocalist are so good and it limits their appeal
I'd definitely prefer less, particularly now that Devin is fully back and writing with them. When their screaming is done well it's great though. I think my favourite Emery moments are when Devin & Toby are trading vocals and there's a bit of background screaming too.
I kind of see where you are coming from, but then I think it through and most of my favorites have at least some screaming in there. I think they've found the right mix personally.
I think they, and most bands, struggle a bit when they scream for the sake of screaming/being heavy, but i don’t think it’s much of a problem. As above, i think they’ve nailed their sound.
The soft/heavy dynamic is what makes Emery who they are for me so, no, I definitely don't want them to stop screaming. They've had their share of odd heavy moments for sure, but I think some of them actually add to their charm. Like, I love the lower screams in "Cutthroat Collapse" even though they aren't objectively very good because they're unexpected and make the song that much more intense cause of how raw and unpleasant they sound. There's other examples but that's the big one for me.
Idk an album fully in the vein of rock pebble stone would be so good. I don’t mean I don’t want them to ever get heavy but they can be heavy without screaming, right? I mean if it sounds like ywna I’ll love it. That’s my favorite emery record.
They can be heavy without screaming, but I think the screaming is what really puts them in that unique classification between bands like Anberlin and Underoath. I certainly wouldn't be opposed to anything they do though. I'd personally take an album of Rock, Pebble, Stone over an album of Thrash but I sure do love the dynamic of both of those songs on one album. Ywna does just keep getting better and better with age.
Yea the guitar layering on that album is just so good. Matt really shows his ability for recording and arranging. Also the vocal melodies are sooo infectious
It's one of those albums where songs that stood out the least (like "To the Deep") are the ones most likely to be in my head now. So good.
I just went through the album with the lyrics up on genius. I’m not a huge religious person but I can respect how incredibly they worked these biblical stories into the album. The lyrics on that record are other worldly. I think it’s officially a top 10 all time album for me now.
