Is This The Real Life is 10x better in my opinion.

what? this song has two great vocal performances, an interesting melody, a nice build, some cool guitar work... idk what is "uninspired" about it.

That ending crescendo...holy wow. Lyrically, as a father, this is all you could ever hope your child sees in you and is a reminder of the selfless decisions you make every day. It's best you play it safe for them, setting your own dreams on the backburner. Also, Toby's shriek at 3:23 is goose-bumpy.

Untethered, unrestrained hype already considered, Emery releases have simply set up shop in my blind spot for criticism. I've concluded after this song that I won't enjoy anything this year as much as Eve. Just not gonna happen haha

The “right ear” guitar on this is fucking amazing. This was even more amazing with headphones.

 

Great track. The way it explodes at the end reminded me of In A Win Win Situation

That "right ear" guitar tone you referenced starting at 0:19 is the same they used on The Weak's End for Under Serious Attack, The Secret, By All Accounts (Today Was A Disaster) but in a different tuning

lol I had your same thought and just listened to those three songs a moment ago to confirm, it's incredibly similar. Toby did mention on one of their Facebook Live posts that they drew previous inspiration from The Weak's End for Eve, wonder if this is the kind of stuff he was talking about

I get ...In Shallow Seas We Sail vibes from the second single.

 

Yeah same here. From around 2:20 onward I hear a lot of resemblance to the actual song ISSWS.

Getting real excited for this! Both singles have been great thus far

think about it, this is our first REAL Devin song since Shallow Seas... yes we got crumbling but to me thats more of a Devin "Solo" song.

 

Alright, I'm intrigued. Can they top ISSWS? Let's hope so. This new one was great. That ending is perfect. Absolutely soaring. I hope this is where the screaming resides on this album. I don't need it front and center, but more as a background effect to add texture.

Interesting that the song last week was called “Everything That She Offered Me” and this one has that line in the lyrics. Maybe it’s a theme throughout?

Their last album was entirely stories from the Bible and it worked pretty well.
