Still haven't heard the album, but I just heard People Always Ask and holy crap it's my favorite outta the 3 singles released so far. So cool and catchy
I can't get into any of the 3 singles which is a shame because I really enjoyed their most recent album prior to this one. Surprised by the love for People Always Ask, there's no real hook that grabs me. I don't even think it's the best of the 3 singles I want more tracks like The Beginning and The Less You Say :)
Not really that type of album, but there is hookier catchier stuff on the record. You should grab an early copy, dm me if you want one.
The highs of NMG are higher, but I skip Five Cups every time and I love everything on this album. Might be tied for #1 for me. But really this, foxing, and mwy all wildly exceeded my expectations this year.
I mean it’s definitely the low point of the album for me. I feel like it’s just kind of plodding. If I last 3:30 before skipping I’m surprised.
Yea five cups is one of the very few long songs that feels quick to me and necessarily long. As for Eve, I liked it immediately, like it more with each listen, and am finding more and more memorable, but I still think YWNA is better at almost every track. Idk, this sounds mature and progressive and fresh and yet when I finish one listen there’s not much that my mind immediately wants to jump back to.
YWNA was going to be hard to top. This feels more raw and visceral if that makes sense. Even if it isn’t as heavy.
I would definitely agree with that, and I think it’s a positive. Doesn’t help though that I’ve been focusing on mwY more lately. Eve will get more time. It’s weird, I’m not used to liking records so much on first listen yet still needing time for them, and here I got 2 in 24 hours. What are your favorites so far?
Not to take away from Eve but I think if more people heard it and got over their post hardcore fatigue YWNA would be a modern scene classic. Easily Toby and matt’s best performances imo. I just find that record astonishing.
Never really gave YWNA much of a chance even though I did really like "Hard Times" Maybe I'll give this a shot? I've at least been curious about it which is a start.
Man, I really really want to hear this thing but I've never trusted downloading leaks since... that day.
It wasn't post-hardcore fatigue for me. I enjoyed the record for what it was but for me Emery without Devin writing is always going to be inferior to Emery with Devin writing. Yes, there were his backing vocals but it's not the same. It might have been Toby's best performance but overall it doesn't do much for me. I wanted an album with Toby and Devin's best performance and in Eve that desire is satisfied. I totally understand people preferring YWNA or holding it up as the best Emery album. That's a solid opinion. I just prefer this one overall and know what I want when it comes to Emery! If you pre-order it you should get an instant download of the full thing here. $10 for the digital version and you get the album straight away.
I can give you the download link from the band, just dm me. They’ve been pretty open about being okay with people sharing it
Totally get this. I meant post hardcore fatigue more from those who have largely fallen away from the band/genre in general (e.g. people outside this thread) haha. That said, YWNA and Eve taught me that Devin doesnt make a record for me. I find Toby a lot more enjoyable nowadays.
