Need to give this another listen today. There's one song on the heavy side which had such an unusual drum beat that it instantly became a top tier Emery track. I love the way each song flows into the next. It has to be the most cohesive work they ever put out, which is the most "different" thing about it.
Listened to this about 4 times through, really like it, surprise out of nowhere for me. I didn't think another contender would be thrown into my album of the year ring, but this looks like it could be. Only song I am not feeling as much is "Everything That She Offered Me", I also like the first half of the album more than the second half, but not by a lot. EDIT: I also always combine "Fear Itself" and "Jesus Wept" in my brain because they transition so well together.
Basically one song. Yes this album is freakin amazing. This band deserves a ton of respect for what they’ve done here. Hopefully people stop calling them shitty metal core haha
Yeah I would never call this metal core lol. From what I remember of their old stuff, I wouldn't have called them that back then either.
Okay crew. I have listened to Emery in a good 6-7 years or so. You’re all saying this is worth a spin? Before I dive in though, is this another Underoath scenario with the cringey new edge?
I actually think lyrically you would really dig this. And they don’t curse!! Haha. Every song sounds very different.
Never really listened to Emery except for a couple songs here or there, was never into them and I think this album is definitely worth listening to.
you mean in a good way? I love how it goes from hardcore, to this like weird slow thing, to like a part by the strokes, to like this weird chanty thing
I think so? It was only my second listen. Still trying to wrap my head around this. I like parts of it, but the sequencing seems odd, and the short songs throw me off a little.
I think when we get the vinyl the sequencing is going to make more sense. I would end Side a with the first prelude start side b with the next.
I don’t get Flesh or Bones at all. Flesh sounds cool and would have been good as an intro building up to a song but here it just stops. And again, I guess they could have had Bones as an outro somewhere like the putrid in The Question but the way it’s currently sequenced as a separate song just seems odd - a small blip on an incredible album!
According to Apple Music, the album will be officially released on November 9th. How cool is that from them, that they already released it for the backers!
have they said which limited color vinyl the backers will get? guess I ended up ordering the swamp green swirl one now too
Love the shirt. And the red vinyl. And the swamp green vinyl. Hope backers get one of those, the cover is too cool for a black record.
