So I finally listened to Eve in full (proud backer) and I like it but I don't see myself returning to it all that much. My favorite record is In Shallow Seas We Sail but I know the guys will never make a record like that again.. which is fine. I honestly back Emery because they're so nice and genuine. I also backed You Were Never Alone and have the same feelings with that as I do with Eve.
This is a good album, not sure if I love it yet. I like that they’re still adding new twists to their sound after all this time. I also fall into the camp that overall this album isn’t THAT different for them, but it’s definitely another solid entry in their discography and does branch out in some cool ways.
Also add me to the camp of I’m Only A Man being underrated. I think that album took some really cool risks that mostly paid off, and the backlash it got at the time was unwarranted. I’d also probably put it above WDWWW and YWNA (although I haven’t listened to those as much). Not sure where Eve would fall in my ranking yet.
Pretty much agree with everything here. I wasn't sure if I was missing something when people started saying it was different. Can't wait to dive into Eve further.
I'm Only a Man is fine, the last song is genuinely bad. A lot of the songs don't really feel fleshed out all the way and I think the track sequence is weird. World Away and After the Devil Beats His Wife are two of my favorite Emery songs though. I think Eve is loads better. Better ideas, better execution.
