will be interesting to see what people think of that episode. Toby really honest and vulnerable when talking about his past view points that he now believes are wrong. I think the song is out of this world good too.
That title is... something else haha. The song is great, they are 3/3 from me so far on the new songs. Extremely hyped for this record. Hearing Toby talk about his thought processes and how his beliefs have changed was interesting. It’s always a weird experience for me to to listen to and love a band when I know they don’t support me or think I’m going to hell or whatever. I got a little emotional listening to the song a second time after hearing his explaination. It’s refreshing to hear him say “I was wrong” and not try to sugarcoat it.
There was an episode of Queer Eye where one of them refused to go into a church because he was condemned by his family and his community for coming out since his family was highly involved in the church. The end of the episode was really touching. It’s nice to see people really take a step back and readjust the lenses through which they view this world.
Thanks for sharing your experience with the song! I’m so hyped for this thing. So like the breakdowns are completely gone now huh? Should be interesting to see how long time fans react to this.
Love this one, definitely my favorite of the three so far (and I like them all). They've always been very melodic but it sounds to me like this album is stepping it up to another level and I couldn't be more excited about that
posted by.... me! EDIT: actually not, it appears i posted it in the band thread for some reason instead of this one
ugh, Beau needs to remove that Mooseblood tag in his bio. I didn't know he produced their album this year and just lost a ton of respect for the guy
Woah, I love the sound on the new song!! They're definitely going for a more melodic approach on this album, and it rules.
How are these guys still finding new ways to subtly change it up this late into their career? 3/3 for me. I especially love the synths, which instantly gave me The Question vibes. The pace reminds me of I Never Got To See The West Coast too.
I think it’s a long time coming for this band, and I know this longtime fan will welcome the lack of breakdowns with open arms. Finally gave Safe the listen it deserved and realized that is exactly what I want from Emery in 2018. Emery with Devin is on another level than without him, and I’m so glad he was involved with this record.
Man. I love heavy Emery, but I am so on board with this softer sound. It’s interesting. I’m Only a Man is the least screamy album of theirs, but I find the melodies to be the least compelling of any Emery record. Based on these three songs, I can see this being the Emery album I wish IOAM was in that regard.
Toby actually said something like this on a previous BadChristian episode a few weeks ago. Matt and Joey were like “don’t say that, everyone will be worried”, or something like that haha! I like that record but this one is shaping up to be incredible.
