I've got an EP review/album preview hopefully going live tomorrow or Monday. I'm cautiously excited about this release, but not necessarily from what we've been given ahead of time.
It's certainly an interesting release, but I kinda dig it. I'm glad she is releasing the EP of collabs apart from the full album. It is a really cool way for her to still explore that sound, and she obviously has loved doing those tracks, but still keep the full album as a separate piece of art. Nothing from either release has blown me away yet, but everything has at least been enjoyable. I'm excited to listen to the whole thing though
This is one of the things that makes me like them more. Artists having fun always brings a little something extra.
Agreed. I think following her on social media, and reading her be VERY transparent about this album and EP has been really nice to see. She's been very realistic about some fans not liking the songs, but then saying how important they are to her, but understanding the critiques
I'm really interested in your thoughts on my EP review/preview because I feel like we feel pretty similar about her. "Slow Grenade" is so great, though. I love it more with every listen.
Cautiously optimistic. I'm hoping having all the songs in one place might make some of them click more for me. I'm just glad she's finally releasing an album
I just ran through all the songs released already. I like Power. Flux is a little better than I remember but still just kind of there for me. Hate Me is also whatever to me, it's fine but doesn't excite me. Honestly I kind of really like all the others? I think it's the first time I've heard Slow Grenade and it goes off. I guess I enjoyed Worry About Me and Close To Me more than I remembered. Maybe I've just had unrealistic expectations for her.
This is my favorite interview yet: Ellie Goulding comes clean about finding love – the one time she wasn’t looking for it
thanks, Steve! she's been posting clips from the album on Facebook over the last few days and I'm getting p u m p e d
I'm actually pretty excited about how in the dark we are. It's going to be cool to just kind of experience it.
Also I was really disheartened when I opened @Garrett's review cus I didn't realize at first it was for the bonus ep or whatever and was very worried for a second that it was for the whole album.
sorry! I had so many thoughts about her career and this small selection of songs Jason let me split them.
I'm ready to listen to the EG.0 songs for the very last time and pretend they were from an alternate timeline while I bop to the main album.
Me too! Glad it was just a review of the bonus EP. Very much agree with your review Garrett. Slow Grenade, for me, is phenomenal and the only track worth returning to on the EP. Hate Me is definitely a step above most of the other songs, and I bopped it for a bit, but it had very little longevity for me. Fingers crossed the main album is good. Ellie's first two albums were so great and I considered her my favourite singer from probably 2010 through 2014. Delirium had some great tracks but, as a whole, did not match the heights of her first two albums. I hope this album gives us some great Ellie tracks, but I remain cautiously optimistic after how much I disliked Close to Me and Worry About Me.
I gotta admit though, as much as Slow Grenade is the best one yet.... I just can't get on board with Lauv, I've tried so many times but he jut doesn't bring anything interesting to the table vocally. Any song I have heard him on, he is the weaker link, and his solo stuff is so damn vanilla. To me he's the epitome of the white male going far without struggling, when the far more impressive females in the same genre have to fight so hard.
