The four quadrants were old comedies, new comedies, old dramas, and new dramas. Unfortunately, something like new comedies was much more stacked (Simpsons-Seinfeld-Curb Your Enthusiasm) and all three would easily beat whatever comes out of the BoJack-Nathan bracket.
Seinfeld gets the nod because I don't really remember life without it. I was watching it when I was way too young and didn't understand half the jokes but it has informed so much of my life and outlook. I watched the Simpsons as a kid too, but it felt more disposable, especially since the show went into bad mode before I was old enough to tell the difference.
Adore both of these so don't really care which one wins. Went with The Simpsons but could easily swap based on the day.
The hardest matchup of the entire thing. Part of my daily ritual growing up, foundational for my sense of humor, bonding moments with my family. Really hard. In the end, I'll go with the Simpsons. Even in the classic run of Seinfeld, there are some stinkers.
Seinfeld. This is where the Simpsons later seasons come back to bite. If you have to say only watch half of a show, that's a problem.
well Seinfeld ran 9 seasons, even if you watch the good seasons of the simpsons thats still 10-11 arguably 12 good seasons.
yeah if you can say watch 10 seasons of a show that's not really an issue for me. It can go on for 100 seasons and not negatively impact the original run for me, it just doesn't really matter.
It is true that the worst of Seinfeld is so much better than most of the Simpsons at this point but those first 8 seasons are just so special.
With the Simpsons, it is more "watch 1/3 of the show" and it is almost 1/4. However, Seinfeld is not clean either; Season One is painfully dry, and the post-David seasons are very tonally different.
Well yeah, Seinfeld's entire thesis was "no hugging, no learning". The Simpsons deserves praise for usually sticking the landing with their emotional moments. One of the biggest problems I always have had with the U.S. version of the Office is that they all act like great friends no matter what Michael or Dwight does to them while in the U.K. version they all have visible contempt for each other.
A question as old as time. Even though the Simpsons have overstayed their welcome, they both roughly had the same amount of all time seasons (about 7 each). Simpsons.
Longevity is so hard in comedy. Even the best shows normally get, what, like 2-4 seasons of really high-quality stuff before they either start rehashing storylines or go too wacky? The fact that both shows delivered 8-9 seasons of no-filler genius (and in an era of 22-episode seasons!) is a miracle in its own right.
This one is tough. I probably rewatch Seinfeld more now, but the Simpsons is one of the most important shows to me ever. Simpsons it is
Seinfeld was talked about more with my friends when it ran. Simpsons was a select few. Both meant something, but Id watch Seinfeld now when on.
