Our entire audience was screaming “Nooo” during the car scene. It seemed to get to a lot of people.

Unrelated - as a fan of the “Le-bronn Jaaaames” vine, I was glad that was a recurring joke.

I don't know of any two Rick & Morty fans that are anywhere near as likable as Kayla and Gabe were

By far, the most fictional thing about the movie.

agree to disagree. it's realistic and accurately describes a lot of people's experiences in eighth grade (or roughly around that time period) - it's okay that it doesn't match the tone of the rest of the movie, imo.

This was fantastic. It’s really got me in my feelings now.

It's been the part I've been thinking of a lot the past week. As a male, I think it felt out of place because it's not something I've experienced and the rest felt much closer to home. It's completely from a selfish place of privilege. The more I think about it, the more it needs to be in the movie.

I just can’t imagine the movie without that scene. I can, however, imagine it without that Gabe scene at the end and it’s a better movie.

It’s a funny scene. I like it. But it felt like one of those scenes that plays while the credits are rolling. Not essential imo.

The Gabe scene at the end needed to be there to continue the thread of hopefulness and to conclude her character change that started with her singing at the birthday party

Disagree. Her standing up to that girl before graduation showed that.

Disagree. If anything, that puts her in a way worse social situation that we don’t get to see

true, but the scene with Gabe showed her progression "romantically"

worse social situation, but necessary for her mental health?

Look, I like that Gabe scene for the laughs it provided. But it really feels tacked on to me. The movie could have ended without it and I think it would have been better

In the short term and for personal growth, sure. But in terms of making it easier on herself in high school? Nah. Carving out the niche relationship with Gabe is much more hopeful

Definitely agree with you on that. Probably the best argument for why that last scene is necessary. But also her taking up Gabe was an act that showed growth unto itself. Maybe if they didn't have the entire scene, but just her agreeing to a 'date" would have sufficed? I really liked the scene but it seems like its the most divisive part of the movie (outside of the car scene).

Nah I liked to see it play out, you see her being happy and feeling comfortable with a peer. It was cute and needed imo

It just felt like the movie was wrapping up and then it’s like...oh...we’re still going???? Ok, I guess. I didn’t think it needed to hold my hand and show me that she was able to get a friend. I assumed she’d be able to do that. But all in all, this is such a minor gripe I have in an otherwise great film

Lol I agree with both of you. I loved the scene itself and feel like it did add something to the ending of the film, but I do understand the way that the scene almost felt like an epilogue haha

The car scene was necessary for its darkness.

The Gabe scene was necessary for its light.

Both were 100% real in totally different ways. Probably the most memorable scenes to me along with the pool party and the dad's speech.
