Just figured the whole movie would be 'this is how divided the country is politically and morally, and how easily it could escalate into violence at any point with your neighbors and we're all fucked' lol.

 

It definitely is this, among other things lol. It is very depressing when it isn't being funny

 

I think I’m so numb from everything being so dumb and bad all the time that I didn’t get super depressed watching this and laughed a decent bit.

 

The stuff that depressed me was more personal than political, like Joe's fate

The more I think about this, the more I love it. Second half of the film was phenomenal

 

Glad that A24 is putting out their own physical media now so we’re basically guaranteed a nice edition for preorder within 2 months.

Also never going to an 11am showing again. Someone scolded somebody for coughing and then sighed extremely loudly every subsequent cough, and then another guy came up to me at the end and said ”I miss David Lynch, he was the good kind of weird” and then proceeded to talk at me for like five minutes. Weird times!

Anyway, loved this. Quite a bit to unpack!

I thought his next film was Acting Class. Which is rumored to star Phoenix and Stone, alongside Bill Hader, Dakota Johnson, Ayo Edebiri and Christopher Abbott.

Sitting on this the last few hours and I do like the film, think it captures the beginning of the pandemic well socially and really hits home on the other social issues throughout (the George Floyd stuff is still pretty jarring since I live in Minneapolis, so seeing it have a part in the film is sorta nuts) Austin butler dude was mostly fine, seems like he was mostly in the film to attribute to Joe crashing out when he did and didn’t have much substance aside from being a quirky cult weirdo.

Also mad they killed my dude from Pueblo smh

 

Joe slowly coming down with COVID and subsequently coming into close contact with people gave me so much anxiety lol

 

Been thinking about this constantly for the last 24 hours and I think it might be Ari's best.

 

His films are borderline-impossible to rank because they are all great in very different ways

 

I’m not 100% sure yet if I like it more than Midsommar, but I could certainly make that case.

 

My movie buddy isn’t feeling this one so I’m going solo

my wife hasn't wanted to sit back row during the pregnancy bc she can't recline the chairs like you can in other rows lol but that's all I can think of

 

At my Cinemark all the seats recline equally babbbby. If it’s a crowded theater I want the back row.
