Materialists was pretty good but nowhere near how much I enjoyed Past Lives. And I thought Sinners was not good, despite enjoying the theater experience. It has been somewhat of a quiet year for movies so far but I feel like it’s usually the second half of the year that pops off
The inclusion of a post credits scene is about the only similarity I can draw. But I've seen like 3 Marvel movies so what do I know?
I get that I’m the odd one out and I don’t love being dogpiled, so that’s why I’m not sharing my full review. Different strokes Overall thought it looked great and felt like a blockbuster, great theater experience as I said—but i’m definitely not an action movie guy. The vampire and shootout stuff did not work for me at all. The music stuff felt severely undercooked. The twin thing didn’t make sense to me. The Irish thing didn’t make sense to me either. Neither did the flash-forward! I could go on but I won’t. Just not my thing!
i won't pile on bc there's no reason to but the take about the music part in particular is just wild to me
You could say it’s the worst movie ever made and I’d read through your points. No need to be a shy guy about what you didn’t like!
I don’t get the MCU comparison necessarily, but I also didn’t love it. Had some baby’s first horror movie vibes and the cgi fire/gore stunk. I will say that the music scenes were very easily my favorite part
A friend actually texted me the other day to say the music aspect of Sinners was derivative, which yeah, I truly don’t get.
It’s perfectly fine to not enjoy a movie just back up your criticisms of it. Also not understanding something doesn’t make it bad. Not sure what there is to understand about the twins or the “Irish thing” that you wouldn’t get just from watching the film?
