His songwriting became so much more unique, he really developed into his own voice. I like Doris a lot but it wasn't anything I hadn't heard before, SRS he really comes into his own sound.
Earl was definitely on his own shit already with Doris, but he was still working within the confines of a certain hip-hop or pop music traditionalism, especially in structure. IDLS definitely marked the beginning of a break with that and with the last two projects I think he’s fully realized that emancipation from the preconceptions of what hip-hop - or even music in general - *should* be.
I just absolutely love how so many Odd Future members have matured and branched out and are absolutely in their own lanes making amazing music (Tyler obviously, Frank, Earl, Syd and the Internet, hell even Domo Genesis is a really underrated rapper and I love a lot of Hodgy's music), there was SO much talent in that weird little collective
I was thinking about this the other day. There was so much backlash when they first dropped and a lot of it was probably warranted because most of the pre-2013/14 projects aged like milk in the sun. But obviously there was potential there and needless to say we’ve been rewarded
Here's the start of a new cycle of Earl playing new songs live and then releasing them years later lol
According to the news post on Stereogum, there's a deluxe Feet of Clay coming June 26th and this is one of those tracks.
Just peeped his merch store which has a preorder for the FOC vinyl. It’s got two bonus tracks, “Whole World” and “Ghost”, so that’s probably the extent of the “deluxe edition”.
I cooled on it super hard and pretty quick so I guess maybe I get where he’s coming from. We got Ovrkast. out of it tho
