I posted in the Relient K thread about this, but if anyone didn't see.... BOTH Relient K tracks no longer have Relient K on them. The previous upload of the single featuring Matt/the band is also scrubbed from the internet. I feel like this thread/website have a part in this and I'm proud of us
I had to kind of chuckle this morning when I found a (negative) review of the album on the site jeasusfreakhideout and in the comments section below someone mentioned that Seth’s turned into a rightwing nutjob. Somebody else asked what that has to do with the album itself, and the person responded to say that it feeds directly into his lyrics and that this has been discussed extensively “on Chorus”.
Stephen replied with the fire emoji on the band’s post today. I’m fairly certain he is standing by them.
I obviously won’t be listening to the album but I can’t imagine Seth’s voice / Watashi Wa’s style with the lyrics above. So cringey and absolutely awful and harmful direction to take. What a shame.
That’s another crazy aspect of this. It genuinely barely even sounds like Watashi Wa if at all. It sounds like an insane mishmash of genres and it’s all over the place. This whole era of Seth’s life has completely warped his songwriting abilities altogether because it’s genuinely just…bad. I know I’ve said it a few times now, but how this is the same guy who wrote such moody, self reflective music like that first technical Lakes/Eager Seas album that the label forced him to put out under Watashi Wa, The Agreement, Fire Ahead, Mine as Well…it’s absolutely beyond me. It’s stunningly bad.
These lyrics are actually comically bad. Like, I laughed out loud. What an absolutely pitiful fall off the map. This stuff is an absolute trash bin. What a joke.
I guess I was still following the band on facebook, so I commented on a music video or something that it's depressing how far off the deep end he's gone, and Seth used the "care" emoji on my reply, very clearly is going for that whole "love everyone" angle of being an idiot. I'm also the only comment on the post, so not a ton of fans are around anymore it seems
We’re all so upset in here, I’m sure Seth would tell us we should just go - “Rollerblading! You know that I was Rollerblading!” Seth no - “Pandemic Earthquakes -“ Seth please I’m begging y- “Lockdowns Fires Rollerblading!” *curls into a ball and waits for the ride to end* “I do this for the love of life -“ *in hysterics* ARE YOU REFERENCING YOUR OLD ALBUM WITH THIS SHIT?!? “Rollerblading!”
Someone replied to my facebook comment asking what I was referring to and I linked this thread, so hey maybe we'll make some new friends haha
I just saw the comment and the person responding so I went to their page to see what kind of person you may be speaking with. They went to a Christian college and it appears they’re a fairly big fan of the band so odds are pretty 50/50 here I guess. *waves* Hello angry new friends.
As I was perusing his old discography, I found an old Christmas cover (Baby It’s Cold Outside) between Seth and his ex, Skylana. Got me kind of curious so I went a scrolling again. Edit: for posterity’s sake since he’s gone and deleted the original tweet she’s responding to below, here’s the screenshot:
lol oh god it’s even better. Steve, he definitely clicked your link and read through this thread. Now every tweet posted in here is gone.
Annnnnnnnnnd his Twitter has gone private now. Gee, Seth, one might be forgiven for thinking you’re feeling some sort of shame? Thought you were all about smiling past the “negativity” now? Or as you wrote in your most recent record: You should probably say how you really feel You can say it! But say it like you mean it And say what you mean And if there is some meaning That’s hiding in between Your mind and pride
