T&N is promoting the crap out of this like everything is normal. I guess they've already sunk too much money into it to do anything about it.
I've got the screenshots in the tweet I sent a few days ago (which hasn't gotten any direct response from anyone involved, as far as I can tell): They probably just told him to delete them and knock it off and that's probably all that will happen.
Um I grew up in an American Christian household and this seems like pretty standard stuff to me I guess if you're an entertainer you keep it quiet to keep the bag intact. Tooth and Nail bands very much included. If you're still going to white American churches in 2022 this shit is going to reach you Like, I've been to church and I'm here to say "liberal" Jesus followers are still the minority you guys
So the song featuring Stephen Christian of Anberlin, “Zombie”, has been released and uhhhh, yeah. Stephen is well aware. They got you like a Zombie Pissed off and bleeding Blindly eating all your own ideals Now they’re barely breathing While their businesses are burning And they’re dedicated And you got me on a mission now And maybe I’ve got a lot this time But I’m not going to break this time And maybe I’m coming to take what’s mine This time you can have all of me Maybe we can get the truth this time And I’m coming in for the love this time And maybe this time we break the lies This time you can have all of me They got you like a zombie Staring at your screen And you’re left without your own ideas Stuck in low vibration But your heart’s still empathizing And they’re MK Ultra’d And it’s time we break the whole thing down And maybe I’ve got a lot this time But I’m not going to break this time And maybe I’m coming to take what’s mine This time you can have all of me Maybe we can get the truth this time And I’m coming in for the love this time And maybe this time we break the lies This time you can have all of me All of you is all of me But they got us tribal choosing All of me is all of you And we can’t just keep on losing And maybe I’ve got a lot this time But I’m not going to break this time And maybe I’m coming to take what’s mine This time you can have all of me Maybe we can get the truth this time And I’m coming in for the love this time And maybe this time we break the lies This time you can have all of me
Yeah, you know…one of the other strange things I noted when I spent a little too much time scrolling through his social media is that his tone and writing style completely shifted in the last couple years. If you go back far enough on Facebook, once upon a time there was an edge there, a biting sense of humor even. In 2016 when Trump won, both he and his wife lamented the victory. She posted that their daughters wept the next morning when they were informed of what had happened the night before and how grateful she was that Seth was there to comfort them in the chaos of what had just happened. It makes me wonder what they think now when he says he was wrong about Trump.
So this released today and, since I pre-ordered it before I knew, well, all the stuff, I have the album. Decided to read through the lyrics. It’s so much worse than I thought it’d be. On top of the rampant ignorance literally all over this record (even a song called “Rollerblading” might be one of the worst offenders) his general songwriting just fell off…hard. Like I can’t believe this is the same guy.
Some real all-timers here: “Rollerblading! Masks on Jobs out It’s Covid-Hour Rollerblading! Now everyone is rioting But I was Rollerblading I was in my own big world Losing all the fear I know! I do this for the love of life Rollerblading!” “We’re talking real life family loyalty man And when I say it babe I mean it Because this is real love baby And I’m the gangster” “To lose, to love Sometimes you win the scars of a champion To love too young Like Weezer said: I’m dumb, she’s a lesbian Hands up” “They’ve got their media station They’ve got fake news in rotation They’ve got: 1.) The rules in your face 2.) You losing your faith 3.) You losing your freedom” “COVID 19! COVID 19! COVID 19! COVID 19! Believe what you want and it won’t change a thing I’m tired of talking! I’m done arguing! I’m not going to fight this anymore I know I don’t Don’t want to argue anymore COVID 19! You know what I mean?” “Man! You’ve got your cinnamon, comic book, biblical man Hey man! Why you go so critical, cynical, criminal man?! Seems like your main plan is to be tyrannical, repress the magical, logical, innovative, full creative” “Mannnnnnn! You’ve got your Mao Zedong, Genghis Khan, Nephilim Man Hey man! With your tech voodoo dolls, cult kabals, genocide Man! What makes your game plan?! Man, it’s historical Matrix so cyclical: fear-frustrated, subjugated, just a human.” Side note here. If you don’t know what the “Nephilim” are, it’s one of those Old Testament biblical myths pulled from scripture. The belief held by some is that demons or fallen angels possessed men, then had relations with the "daughters of men," resulting in the Nephilim. So…that seems to be what he’s comparing Mao Zedong and Genghis Khan to which…sigh. “I’m living in America I’ll give up all my liberties Just give us the celebrities I’ve got all my name brand chains” “I gave up all my hopes and dreams I’m working Corp America Free Burger King to take vaccines Divided sheep America They want to take our liberty” “Is there room enough for your freedom now? I’m breaking all of the rules around I’m keeping all of the lost and found I’m going crazy! Who? I’m pushing all of the pull-always And I’m praying up for the ones who prey” “We’re moving on up We’ve got to see you smiling Lighting it up We said no more dividing And we’re taking it off Throwing those masks away So we can see your beauty Come on!” And this is not including the previously mentioned lyrics from the “Anberlin” feature “Zombie”.
I was not planning on listening to this, but I almost want to hear the "COVID-19!" song out of misguided morbid curiosity.
It’s a very short “punk” 1:03 feature with Dogwood (which also sucks because I once upon a time remember enjoying Dogwood in my Christian youth) if you do feel like indulging.
this is god-awful lyricism. how the hell did T&N let them put this out? was it all based on the legacy of the band on the label previously?
I've seen people posting positive reviews of this on social media. Not sure how they came to the conclusion that they did.
