FYI, the band is using Watashi Wa again.... So for those keeping track we are at... Watashi Wa -> Eager Seas -> Lakes -> Eager Seas -> Watashi Wa, full circle haha. Anyway, new album incoming May 20 "Let Me Prepare You" (Feat. Gasoline Heart) "Zombie" (Feat. Anberlin) 'Rollerblading" (Feat. Blenderhead, Spoken in Tongues) "Like You Mean It" (Feat. Freeto Boat) "Media Station" "Trust Me" (Feat. Dogwood + Saint Didacus) "XCovidX"(Feat. Dogwood + Saint Didacus) "How Will We Live" (Feat. Relient K) "Who Who Hu(Man)" "Land Of The Free" "Some Time" (Feat. Noise Ratchet, Relient K) "Crazy For You" "Moving On Up" (Feat. Dogwood + Saint Didacus)
Oh my god, this is so twisted and convoluted, but I just found this review of the Watashi Wa album, Eager Seas, and apparently that album was originally going to be called People Like People, which is what the new one is actually called Watashi Wa, "Eager Seas" (People Like People) Review
Lol yep and to make matters more convoluted, at the time Watashi Wa had already broken up and he was releasing that album as a solo effort under the moniker Eager Seas with the “People Like People” album title. As a result, all the original press material had the Eager Seas name on it. But the label felt there would be more recognition with the Watashi Wa name, so they made him change it for the album release. Then he later parted ways with the label and made his band Eager Seas, but his wife at the time didn’t like the name so they changed it to Lakes. Then after his divorce he changed it back to Eager Seas. And now, yeah, we’ve come full circle to “People Like People” being released, but this time under the Watashi Wa name rather than Eager Seas. Kind of reminds me of the Matt Pond trajectory.
It's sooooo crazy, kinda funny, definitely confusing... but alas the music has always been great, so fine by me
I did not realized that crazy path of band names. I always thought of Lakes/Eager Seas as a new band, separate from Watashi Wa. Just happy to have new music from Seth! Of all the releases Fire Ahead is still my favorite by far. It definitely flew under the radar but is really solid
Originally there were band member charges from WW to ES, I think. But this new WW album is the same lineup as the most recent ES album
Quite a number of huge features on this album - Anberlin, Relient K, Dogwood, Blenderhead, Noise Ratchet…! Interested to see how that impacts the sound.
…..holy shit. Noooooooooooooooooo fuck this. Aw man. I can’t believe I’m saying this after all these years, but fuck this dude. Ugh. This one hurts.
Scrolling through his Twitter feed and it just gets worse and worse. Just last week he retweeted this: He also tweets at Elon Musk in some weird attempts to get his attention, throws his support behind Emilio Estevez for quitting the Mighty Ducks show because he refuses to get vaccinated, repeatedly posts about his love for Kanye and Donda (citing it as his “favorite era of Kanye thus far”), calls Eric Clapton brave, tweets about recalling Gavin Newsom over Covid restrictions, retweets people calling Fauci a liar who should be tried, retweets fucking Mike Cernovich, also retweets things like this: and this: and on and on and on and that’s only going back to last summer. Whelp. I’m out. Hot damn.
Unbelievably disappointing, I really hope that Relient K and Anberlin are just oblivious to this and don't share the same views...
And this guy’s new music is all about love and trust and positivity? Seeya, dolt. makes me wonder if the cover art for the single, a family on the beach in masks, is meant to be inflammatory, too
Worth noting that one of the tracks on this thing is titled “xcovid19x” and I’m real sure I don’t want to know what the lyrics are.
If I were to infer something here, I’m sure these kinds of thoughts have probably always been present in some form and maybe he just did a decent job flying under the radar, but recent tweets like this make me think he had some kind of conservative “spiritual” run in/breaking point that pushed him over the edge:
