I genuinely just buy too many movies. I'll manage to find a handful of movies any time I go out to the store.
No such thing as too many especially if you are enjoying what you are buying unlike when I used to buy cheap DVDs without even knowing if I was going to enjoy the film or not. Don't do that with Blu-rays/4K though as I want my collection to represent my taste which it certainly has grown into.
I definitely used to do that too. I used to work at a store called MovieStop and most of my paychecks used to go to stacks and stacks of used dvds no matter what they were. I definitely eased up, but I still buy a ton.
Like I said, if they are films that you like then you don't have to justify your purchases to anyone and I certainly don't try to do so when I get the inevitable moans about how much I have spent despite buying films being one of the few extras I routinely get. Having to somewhat ease up myself though now since what room I have has become extremely sparse, so new shelving is going to be needed haha.
Portrait of a Lady on Fire and Blood Simple came yesterday, still waiting on Marriage Story to ship since that was a preorder. And today I should get the Cassavetes Five Films set. I’m not sure how that one worked out since it still shows sold out for shipping and that’s the method I bought, but I’ll take it!
I wish I could collect more, but I just don't have room for it ha. Probably for the best. Favorite thing I own is probably the Miyazaki collection set. I have a few Criterion releases (Before Trilogy, Tree of Life, Police Story 1&2, Royal Tenebaums) and a special Interstellar blu-ray release that came with a booklet and a 70mm IMAX film cell. Oh, and I also have a cool Prince of Darkness steelbook from Scream Factory. Shoutout to @irthesteve. I think I remember you saying you worked for them.
Today I purchased the SF Collector’s Edition of Firestarter as well as their CE of Urban Legend. On top of those I also grabbed the Arrow release of Killer Klownz From Outer Space since it was on sale at FYE. Yesterday I grabbed Scream’s AMAZING Creepshow set to go with my Arrow release of Creepshow 2 that’s arriving in the mail tomorrow.
I haven't bought anything during quarantine, but I haven't really shared my collection yet either. I'll see if I can get some good pics of my shelves
I still cherish the Nathan For You posters that Steve sent me when the DVDs came out. Shout out Shout Factory and @irthesteve
Had a bit of a weekend binge, the bottom two Premium Collection films also came with a poster instead of just art cards. However, it is this Ray Harryhausen Collection that I am most pleased about getting that also comes with a 75-page book detailing aspects about each of the three films which I have provided an excerpt off as it made me laugh when I read it.
Best of all got the Arrow Academy release of The Game, which comes with a 200-page book with the Blu-ray and DVD discs included inside.
My horror/genre titles are with my Asian/Martial Arts & Criterion movies, separate from my main collection. It’s an older rack that once shelved my VHS tapes, that being said I’m well aware of the sagging top shelf lol (I’m building a new one soon). My main collection:
It’s not going anywhere, it’s looked like that for over ten years (besides, it’s like 3 feet off the ground, nothing insane lol). I just recently brought it out because my collection was getting too big so I separated all my horror, Asian, and Criterion titles and stuck them on this until a build a whole new one myself.
