Live cover album coming out March 18th. I'm mostly posting this because he released Wrecking Ball a few minutes ago, and having a good quality version of this is wonderful.
I love Dustin's solo stuff. It's weird, I never really got into Thrice but I adore Please Come Home, and his most recent solo album get's a lot of play from me as well. Definitely excited for this covers album
Yeah, weirdly, I didn't get much into Thrice either, but I love Artist in the Ambulance, Red Sky, and Daedalus by them. They're just such a random band that it's hard for me to go through their stuff- I'm not big in the really heavy screaming tracks. If anyone has some suggestions based on those songs I like, that'd be awesome. Dustin's got such a cool voice, I've just been watching live videos of him for the past month or so haha.
Thanks, I'll definitely give those a listen sometime soon. Love how much stuff Spotify has from them, can't believe they have two live albums up there lol
Could definitely listen to Dustin sing the phonebook. I'm playing this for the first time right now. Here's a thought I had: do you prefer hearing someone give new life to a song you already know, or do you more appreciate hearing a cover of a song you don't know so you can think of it as "new"?
If someone is going to do a cover, @Lindsay M, I'd rather know the song so I know how to interact with it. I find covers interesting, because I either love them or hate them, and there is no middle ground for me.
I tend to always prefer the original. Covers have been great for introducing me to songs though - for example, I had never heard "You & I" by Wilco until it was a cover on a Jimmy Eat World album. I'm a fan of both, I guess.
I have an old mixtape I made that was a great weaving together of Thrice's non-screaming songs. I'll try to find that track list for you
Found it! It has some Dustin Kensrue solo songs too. I made this playlist back in 2011 or early 12. 1. Blood & Wine (Kensrue's Please Come Home) 2. I Believe (PCH) 3. Moving Mountains (Alchemy Index Vol IV) 4. Child of Dust (Alchemy IV) 5. Stare at the Sun (The Artist in the Ambulance) 6. Please Come Home (PCH) 7. In Exile (Beggars) 8. Come All You Weary (Alchemy IV) 9. The Whaler (Alchemy II) 10. Image of the Invisible (Vheissu) 11. Circles (B) 12. Blinded (M/m) 13. Treading Paper (M/m) 14. Disarmed (M/m) 15. Of Dust and Nations (V) 16. The Weight (B) 17. Blanket of Ghosts (PCH) 18. Beggars (B) 19. Words in the Water (M/m) This playlist fits onto a CD, and I remember spending a while trying to arrange the songs before deciding that I thought it worked pretty well flowing from shortest song to longest. Soooooo enjoy! It's missing a few but this is the most of them. If there are any glaring absences, I'd probably say "Atlantic," but honestly the band really does have a large selection of songs with close to no screaming.
You know what, I'm gonna give thta a listen ^. Probably without the please come home tracks though, I listen to that album all the time
Listening again with more concentration, and this is pretty incredible. That cover of Jesus Christ is amazing at the end.
This didn't really do anything for me. I wasn't expecting to be blown away or anything, but there wasn't anything on it that I would want to go back to.
