Yea, I always expect war movies to be a hard R.

 

Christopher Nolan on 'Dunkirk', His War Film That Is More "a Story of Survival”

 

Nolan on the PG-13 rating. Basically saying there's probably nothing new he thought he could bring to the table in the realm and long history of R-rated war films, so he tried to aim for something different. He (and the studio probably) also wants a lot of people to be able to see it.

 

Might make it easier to show in classrooms in the future?

 

No classroom of mine.

 

I remember watching the Patriot in highschool for history class. Had to get a permission slip signed. Movie is seriously awesome.

 

Nowadays, I give out permission slips that need to be turned in if a parent does not want their child to watch a movie. I get none back.

I have a flyover understanding of the Dunkirk evacuation and battle. Do you think it's better to go into the movie with that little knowledge? Ever since this was announced, I've become intrigued by it. I've wanted to pick up a book that goes in depth, but I would hate to be spoiled by an important plot reveal.

 

Don't let some summer blockbuster stop you from learning about the war that shaped the modern world (although we focus too much on the battles and not enough on the causes and effects).

 

I imagine watching the movie will spark my interest to read up on it after. I just want the best possible movie experience
