It's annoying, but not all that surprising, that studio execs seem to have this condescending attitude towards general audiences despite being constantly proved wrong. Nolan films, Mad Max, and the new Planet of the Apes trilogy are all examples of films that are considered smarter than the average blockbuster that have done extremely well at the box office.

I rarely go see a movie multiple times in it's theatre run - but - In theatre, I saw The Dark Knight twice, Inception three times, Interstellar three times. I'm curious how many times I'll go see Dunkirk.

    Inception twice.

The Dark Knight Rises three times.

    Interstellar three times.

I don't have repeat viewings of any other movies in theaters. Although I think I might have seen the LOTR movies a few times each as well. It's been a long time.

One of Nolan's best traits is how his movies (primarily Memento, Prestige and Inception) are all really good at taking smart concepts and explaining them in a way even dumb people can understand what is going on, and thus feel smart for understanding it.

    Love Interstellar.

It's right up there with The Dark Knight for me.

Helps that my daughter had been born the July before it released. It really hit home.

Interstellar is a top five movie for me. Probably watched ~15 times.

I should probably watch Interstellar again. I remember being very whelmed by it. Wasn't bad, but didn't live up to the hype either.

Interstellar is underrated. I think it will be appreciated more in the future.

pondering going to see this considering the buzz

seems like a safe bet that this could be Nolans best film

I just dunno if I can ever subject myself again to a Nolan fiction script after TDKR and Interstellar.

  14. The Prestige, TDK, BB, Memento, Inception ... and, yes, even Interstellar all were pretty good fiction scripts. Even if one doesn't like TDKR (which I'd argue is underrated now too given the drudge of comic book movies we get) or any of the other films individually, hard to argue "subject oneself" isn't an over the top statement. Unless, one doesn't like Nolan movies. Then ... yeah, seems like an easy and obvious thing to ... not go see one.

    I won't listen to a 3 minute song by a band I know I don't like. I don't get spending 2 hours and 20 bucks on a movie I know I won't like.

Given how critical Slant was, it is probably safe to skip it.

While I liked the movie a bunch, I can see Slant's point about the weirdness of the timelines not running concurrently. It's the one thing that took me out of the movie and had me having to stop to think about what point we were at in the movie. Still, I think it's a minor problem and not anything I'd dock the movie too hard for.

Interstellar was fantastic and a true visual achievement...and then the last, like, 25 minutes happened. If didn't get all sappy at the end I would probably rank it among my favorite Nolan movies. Instead I have it near the bottom, which I hate to do, but the end of that movie really kills it for me, personally. So, I absolutely adore 4/5 of it, and then dislike the last 1/5 kind of a lot.

Also the sound mixing was pretty bad at times; I did a literal spit take when it was nominated for the Best Sound Mixing at the Oscars.

I don't understand why anyone would put all their faith into the opinion of one single, monolithic reviewer, personally. It's why I never understood people that hate on Metacritic, or even Rotten Tomatoes; one would think having an aggregate, and easy access to links for all of the full reviews, would be more valuable than putting all one's faith into a single author writing for a single media outlet. I mean, I love the Red Letter Media guys, respect the hell out of their opinions, and watch every video they put out, but I'm not going to write off a movie just because they gave it a poor review on Half In the Bag, especially if the general consensus is that the film in question is good.

All like 99 positive reviews posted to RT are all wrong everyone! Slant said it's bad, so I guess let's pack it up and call it a day. Dunkirk sucks, Slant said so.
