I liked this a lot, some fucking awesome action scenes and set pieces in imax but as a whole there was stuff that didn't feel that satisfying and a little undercooked. Kinda tired of these movies not having real endings, even if they're envisioned as one long narrative over a trilogy I haven't read the books. So is Chani's arc completed?
Based on the books? Absolutely not. But where her character ends up is the biggest change from the book imo
This was brilliant. That said, I wish they fleshed out a few more things (the romance, the decision to go south, Austin Butler's character) which is probably just how the story goes, but I could have done with another hour.
This obviously ruled but two movies in a row without a real ending is a bit of a bummer. A lot of groans in the audience (which was only like 20 people) when the credits started. Harkonnen rules. Why are we spending so much time in a boring desert when we can be in some sexy fucked up Powder-verse
The thing about it not really ending is that’s pretty much just how the book ends. The only thing they really changed in terms of not giving closure is Chani running off into the desert. But even that we already had Paul say he knows she’ll come around because he’s seen it in his visions. Dune is the story of Paul ascending to the throne and that arch was completed in this movie. I really hope the third movie is actually called Dune Messiah and not Dune part 3 for that reason.
Cannot stop thinking about how loud this was and how amazing the score feels when it’s literally shaking your seat. Also, the slap got a laugh in my theater, which I thought was weird. Definitely didn’t feel like a moment of levity to me.
I had a couple on both sides of me (the seats directly next to me were empty thankfully) and all four of them laughed at the slap and other odd moments. The guy on the left also kept loudly commenting on everything going on. And the girl on the right kept pulling her phone out to text at full brightness. Going to the movies is fun
I was at a fully sold out show last night and the crowd was perfect. No one talked, pulled out their phones, not even a cough or anything!
